P.G. Smith

Biography

I was born and raised in the greater Boston area. For many years I worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor, public school special education teacher, and educational administrator. I really enjoyed my time in schools and I can honestly say that I learned a lot of life lessons from both my students and fellow educators.

For 35 years, I lived a double life as an Army National Guard officer, during which I commanded many emergency relief missions, including responses to Hurricane Sandy, Hurricane Irene, and the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombings. Among the varied assignments I had during my military career, I'm proud of the role I played in developing a United Nations Peacekeeping force in the Republic of Paraguay.

I've probably been writing since the time I could talk. My published work has appeared in periodicals such as Country Living, Career World, Military History, Canada's History, National Guard, and GX (Guard Experience). From time to time, the Boston Globe, Wall Street Journal, and Worcester Telegram and Gazette have been kind enough to print my op-ed pieces, letters, and rants.

These days I spend as much time as possible at our place in Boothbay Harbor, Maine where I like to bike, hike, and row across the harbor. Somehow the cool breeze, sparkling sea, and crystal clear sunshine help me do my best writing.
