In Bed

We love to read in bed—you can stay warm, cozy, and comfortable under the blankets, curled up with a good book. This is especially great during the winter.

The Couch

Reading on the couch is great, as long as you have a comfortable couch. If not, maybe it’s time to retreat to your comfortable bed.

The Library

A library is always a wonderful place to read. There are chairs, it’s quiet, and, best of all, if you finish a book, you can immediately grab another one!

Sunny Places to Read a Book

In the Sun

There’s nothing like basking in the sun while reading. Just don’t forget the sunscreen.

A Hammock

If you don’t want to lie in the grass, a hammock is an alternative. You’re still in the sun, but you’re comfortable and can even swing gently.

The Swing

Speaking of swinging, a swing is another of our favorite places to read a book.

The Beach

A beach is a great place to read. Warm sand, cool breeze, soothing water . . .

Hanging Around

We just can’t stop reading—even if we need to get somewhere. That’s what multitasking is for, right?

The Treadmill

Who says reading can’t be a physically healthy activity? We love to read while exercising.

On that same note, stretching while reading feels great.

I am a copyeditor and a typesetter of print books, and have been editing and typesetting (using InDesign) for thirteen years. As the executive editor at Book Cave, I enjoy helping authors be successful, and I only get interrupted a little bit (ha!) by my cute, rambunctious two-year-old.

I have family that live in other states. Travel delays happen. I always have a book, and now my Kindle app to read. I have been in a couple of traffic jams where I have been delayed for 2 hours or more. You sit there with nowhere to go and nothing to do. Unless you have something to read. I make good use of that time and don’t get angry or anxious. I read and relax.

I prefer reading in bed late at night. However, I carry my Kindle everywhere I go. Waiting to see the doctor, riding the ferry, traveling by train are great places to read.

My fave reading place is a “root chair,” by the Merced River in Yosemite Valley. Right next to an employee “tent camp” called the Ozone, which doesn’t exist anymore, but still remember my fave root chair, where it was. All the tourists (who paid me) didn’t know it existed, and could be alone.

That “root chair” was perfect, had a lovely shot east to Half Dome, a few feet up from the Merced (“Mercy,” in Spanish, something the settlers showed little of, to the Ahwahnechee Indians who were in Yosemite Valley before they were).

Is south of Yosemite Village, west Valley. Not far from the “swinging bridge,” and quite close to the pedestrian path, but blissfully not near any road.

My favorite place to read is in my recliner. But I also read in check-out lines, waiting for appointments, etc. In summary, I read everywhere I can!

I love to read on my phone while waiting in line at the post office, waiting for kids at school, waiting for a program to start. In the middle of the night when I can’t sleep. Anywhere. Thanks for all the great books!
