Are you a book lover? Here are 6 useful, bookish DIY crafts that will proclaim your love of books to the world.

1. Homemade Bookmarks

Making your own bookmark is easy; it only requires a few colored pieces of cardstock paper, a pair of scissors, and glue. You can make a simple bookmark by cutting a long rectangle and gluing pieces of colored paper on it. Make it fancier by punching a hole at the top and tying a string through the hole.

Here are a few bookmark ideas to get you started:

  • Cat bookmarks
  • Bookmarks with quotes
  • Pressed flower bookmarks
  • Teacup bookmarks
  • Bookmark tassels

2. Zippered Book Clutch

If you have a hardback book you like but that’s falling apart, you can breathe new life into it by repurposing it into a zippered book clutch. This requires a bit more work, as well as some sewing, but the results are beautiful.

For a zipper-less design that requires hot glue instead of sewing, check out this tutorial.

3. Brick Books

Paint old bricks to look like books and place them in your garden or on your porch or use them as bookends.

4. Book Coasters

Follow this tutorial for making coasters with ceramic tiles, but instead of using scrapbook paper, use pages from a book to make a book coaster fit for a book lover.

5. Bookends

wooden bookends

You can make a variety of bookends from scrap pieces of wood. Or you can make them a little fancier by picking up some cheap moulding from your home improvement store. You simply attach two pieces of wood into an L shape with a few nails. You can fill the resulting L space with something to make it more eye-catching; simply tap into your creativity! Maybe glue on a wooden letter, or a plastic figurine, or just another decorative piece of wood. This post has some great ideas and a more in-depth tutorial.

6. Book Jewelry

These ones take some work, but you can make great book-lover’s jewelry yourself.

  • Book Rings
  • Book Quote Necklace
  • Book Necklace

For the last book necklace, you can also buy a variety of mini books from Michaels. You could even get creative and use these mini books to make earrings and bracelets.

Have you tried making any of these bookish DIY crafts? We’d love to hear in the comments below!

Happy reading!
