A spellbinding, chilling read!
What I love best about Garland’s stories is that he doesn’t explain absolutely everything – the reader is left to come to their own conclusions.
Tightly written, perfectly paced, this chilling thriller makes interesting comments on past and current social culture. The scene setting is spot on, conveying vivid, dramatic and haunting images of the farm and moor, without being too wordy.
The characters come to life immediately and the reader is swept along on an intriguing, sometimes amusing, yet ultimately haunting ride.
I really enjoyed the references to Paradise Lost and love the link between the Tree of Life and Yggdrasil. Clever!
If you enjoy mysteries and supernatural thrillers, you’ll love this tale! 5/5
