Description
Casablanca, 1960s.
After her father’s sudden death, Tamo leaves her rural home for a city alive with music, rumor, and rising unrest. Taken in by relatives, she struggles to find her place in a world that feels both exhilarating and uncertain.
Drawn into a circle of musicians and student activists, she forms fragile bonds that open new possibilities, and new dangers. A magnetic singer awakens her devotion to Moroccan folk music, while a young idealist draws her toward a political awakening she cannot ignore.
As protests erupt and surveillance tightens, every connection carries consequences. Caught between tradition and transformation, between loyalty and independence, Tamo must decide who she will become, and what she is willing to risk.
Drummers and Dreamers is a coming-of-age novel set against the charged atmosphere of post-independence Morocco, where personal freedom and political reality collide.
