Do you have a young, voracious reader in your family? When I was younger, I wasn’t allowed to read a book unless my mom had read it first to check the content. But it can become frustrating to find appropriate ebooks for kids who read a lot.
Well, Book Cave can help! With our content ratings, you always know what you’re getting when you buy an ebook for your child or sibling.
How do ebook ratings on Book Cave work?
Ebooks on our site are rated in 7 different categories: crude humor; drug, alcohol, and tobacco use; kissing; profanity; nudity; sex and intimacy; and violence and horror. Each category is given an individual rating, and the highest rating becomes the book’s overall rating.
Each book rating will let you know exactly why it was rated that way, so you know what you’re getting.
You can read more about how our rating system works in our blog post here.
What ratings do I want to ensure I buy appropriate ebooks for kids?
If you’re looking for appropriate ebooks for kids, we recommend signing up for the following content ratings on Book Cave:
Age — Rating
0 and up — All Ages
8 and up — Mild
10 and up — Mild+
14 and up — Moderate
16 and up — Moderate+
These are just recommendations, so you are of course welcome to make your own assessment. You can refer to the chart below to see just what each content description and the rating associated with it means in each category. In fact, below is what the author or publisher sees and needs to choose from before they submit a book for our approval. Please note that My Book Cave does not promote books with the Adult+ rating (as listed below), but authors, publishers, and readers do list them on our database of rated books My Book Ratings, which is a database for all books. (Feel free to submit a book rating there for any book you’ve read!)
