Biography

Want to know about me? Well, I can’t stay in one genre.

My favourite authors range from Raymond Chandler to Samuel R. Delany to Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Mark Helprin and J.R.R. Tolkien.

Stories of all sorts are continually swirling in my mind, from mysteries to epic fantasies to thrillers. As Delany said, when I can’t find the story I want to read, I write it.

And I love to cross the boundaries between genres. You can see that in my fantasy stories and books like Dark Clouds, Initiation Rites and The Bones of the Earth.

I was born in Winnipeg, as close to the east-west centre of Canada as you can find a major city. I grew up in Thunder Bay, at the head of the Great Lakes, and lived in Toronto for 16 years.

I now live in Ottawa, Canada’s capital, where I write mysteries, epic and paranormal fantasies, thrillers, blogs and magazine articles.

In addition to writing, I love traveling with my beautiful wife, hangin’ with my mighty sons, downhill and cross-country skiing, swimming, whitewater canoeing, hiking, music, food and travel. One day, I may learn how to cook.
