Weapons of Old (The Unbound Realm Book 2) by Kent Wayne 5/5
Mind-bending Magic
In a similar vein to the first book in this series, Weapons of Old continues Jon Dough’s (yes, I know!) adventures in the Realm of Evermoor.
What I love about this series are the concepts contained with the narrative. Yes, there is a quest, a fellowship, trials and tribulations and a mega battle at the end. But, this tale is so much more than that.
I thoroughly enjoyed the mind-bending magic at work in this world – the descriptions of auric powers are so vivid and real and quite fantastical.
The characters are endearing, charming, bloody annoying and downright rude, depending on who they are and where they’re coming from. But what a cast of characters exists in this world; really cool pirates, cat warriors and wolven fighters, as well as duellists, assassins and a myriad of arcane workers.
The things that makes this series stand out are the ideas and concepts of being, of existence, of reincarnation, of destiny and fate. I don’t like writing reviews with spoilers in so I apologise for being vague.
If you’re into fantasy, you have to read this. It really will open your mind to all sorts of things!
And even if you’re not into fantasy, try it – it’s so very different from anything else I’ve read.
Also suitable for fans of Clint Eastwood and Samuel L Jackson movies!
I can’t wait for book three to arrive!
