Description
Step into the shoes of the disciples as they travel with Jesus in this 30-day devotional book.
In just ten minutes a day you’ll draw closer to God and have a better understanding of Jesus’s central message to his followers.
As Christ’s ministry was coming to an end, he journeyed to Jerusalem one last time to celebrate Passover before fulfilling his mission at Calvary. Rather than fret about the cross, he instead used his precious time left to instill in his followers the critical lessons they would need when he was gone.
Through parables, miracles, and object lessons, Christ reminded those around him that the kingdom of God is nothing like the kingdoms on earth. On earth we seek money, power, and political control. But the kingdom of God belongs to the humble and the generous. Earthly kingdoms destroy their enemies and those who reject them. Jesus instead preached forgiveness, mercy, and longsuffering.
While the primary motivation for many followers of Jesus was freedom from Rome’s tyranny, Jesus taught that his kingdom is not of this world. His mission was far more ambitious than restoring a nation to its former glory. He sought to bring life to the entirety of humanity, even the Romans. Jesus set out to straighten the record for his followers that outcasts like tax collectors and Samaritans were welcome if only they would place their faith in him.
When we embrace the Kingdom of God and apply these lessons to our own lives, we learn to think, act, and speak with a heavenly perspective. Rather than seek our own glory, we allow the Spirit to conform us to the image of Jesus. In so doing we become more selfless, gracious, and focused on the work of the kingdom. These things do not come naturally or easily, but such a transformation is possible by the grace of God.
This devotional covers Luke 17-19 and includes daily scripture passages and prayer prompts right in the text. Spanning only three chapters in thirty days allows the reader to dive deep into the teaching of Christ and examine familiar texts with fresh perspectives. After a month you’ll have a more complete picture of the Lord’s primary message to his disciples and how to apply these lessons to your daily life.
Embark on this journey with Christ, and see your life transformed.
