Description
Whereas most prequels come out subsequent to the main work, Two of All People comes in advance of The Dying Party (launch March 1st). Together they answer the question: “What happens when they tell us it’s too late to stop the climate crisis?”
The novel has two story lines, alternating from chapters to chapter; one about how the poor deals with it, and one about how the rich and powerful fare. The former is established in the prequel novella, Two of All People, introducing that storyline’s two central characters: Lizzie and Donnie. It is the 2040s, and Lizzie and Donnie are among the last surviving residents in a complex built into the side of Gros Morne mountain in the 2030s, now the only piece of habitable land above water in all of what was once eastern Canada.
Research shows that if we stay on our present course of inaction and complacency, such a declaration will come sooner than we think. By exploring the worse-case scenario, The Dying Party and its prequel deliver a cautionary tale to end all cautionary tales; highlighting and tracking the fundamental change such an announcement would make in humanity, psychologically—a change that will complicate and accelerate further what is happening.
