Description
Resistant to leaving his small midwestern town, Robert Goluba departs for Army basic training days after high school graduation and then attends college. Soon he crosses the Atlantic to live with a family in Germany. A family Robert has never met that speaks a language he barely understands.
Driven to explore by the allure of Europe, Robert darkens medieval castle doorways and tosses pebbles into the Mediterranean Sea.
Complications also find him.
Lack of money is a problem in Paris and sleeping is scarce on cramped trains rumbling under the night sky across the German countryside. Excitement escalates with each new country as Robert dances on tables during Oktoberfest, sneaks into the Roman Colosseum after dark, and spends time in a Mexican prison.
Two Horizons is one-part funny travel memoir and one-part self-discovery journey as one man discovers new cultures and greater empathy for humanity.
