Description
By 2052 citizens of the United States live in fear of dishonest government and extremists. Seeking escape from his abusive society, Philip Russell, a young cognitive scientist, takes a job with The Pystead Group, a high-tech company located in the West Indies. He falls in love with an artist who works for the company and is quickly drawn into its secrets, becoming part of its illegal, brain-scanning security program. On the streets of Nevis, Philip survives deadly encounters with the company’s enemies through his resourceful use of Pystead’s drones and remnants of his past kung fu lessons.
The company is soon forced off Nevis. Its recruits learn that the huge pontoons supporting its fish farm and hospital facility at sea actually are self-sufficient ships: complete cities with farms and factories. Philip finds himself on an unexpected journey driven by disruptive politics and advanced technologies.
The novel blends speculative science, philosophy, and art in an adventure that unfolds organically. Enter the hearts and minds of Philip and his friends as they encounter romance amid the troubles and fantastic possibilities of their era.
