Description
Erikson Gray believed that wielding a legendary sword and surviving countless dangers was the greatest test he would ever face. But the whispers of Lightbearer and the haunting legacy of his bloodline lead him into the Sacred Grove—a realm where secrets and danger breathe as one. Here, the ancient forest stirs with mysteries older than time, and the darkness within Erik grows harder to ignore.
In The Mourning Son, the journey delves deeper, unraveling truths that could fracture Erik’s soul. As he braves the twisted paths of the grove, Erik must face not only the perils of an ancient wilderness but the weight of his own unraveling identity. Allies may turn to enemies, and the past threatens to devour the future. Shadows stir where the light fears to tread, and answers lie buried beneath the forest floor—if Erik dares to uncover them.
The choices Erik makes will define not just his destiny, but the fate of a realm standing on the edge of ruin. With each step, the stakes rise, and every revelation carves a new wound in his fragile resolve. What will he sacrifice to uncover the truth—and can he survive the cost?
This is Dark Fantasy with a Difference!
I love this story that contains tales within tales. There aren’t any big info dumps, just motives revealed through conversations and actions.
You don’t need to have read book 1, as this book stands on its own as a novel. But I recommend you do read the first as it is such a swashbuckling read!
I read the first book nearly 2 years ago, so finding the chief protagonist ship-wrecked without any memories wasn’t a problem. Like Erik, I re-discovered his past as the story unfolded. (I knew I recognised the guy with the eye-patch but couldn’t remember who he was for a few chapters!!!)
This novel is quite different from the first as all the action takes place in one land. This book focuses on the Forest People and the dangerous terrain of their land, as well as the deathly tunnels that lead to Dis. There are deceptions and revelations of truth that will keep you guessing all the way through!
This is an entertaining and inspiring read suitable for all dark fantasy lovers of any age.
