Description
Going to sex parties wasn’t Bronwyn’s idea of fun. But it had to be done. Senior government officials were being blackmailed into betraying national secrets. Some worked in defence establishments. Others were diplomats.
The Guardians is a work of fiction, inspired by events, in Britain, a generation ago. The notorious traitors, Burgess and Maclean, had betrayed their country to the Soviets and escaped to Russia. They came from privileged upper-class backgrounds and had friends in high places to protect them. Many thought they had been allowed to escape.
That was speculation. The sex parties and blackmail were undoubtedly real. So were the bizarre, sex-related deaths of people working in defence establishments. Newspapers seized on them. Some even speculated that a maverick team of government agents was liquidating traitors who had escaped prosecution.
