Description
Anna-Maria and Captain Laurence have a past. A past that she remembers fondly every day. Back then, she naively believed that he would choose her for his very own, but that didn’t happen. Why would the son of a duke marry a lowly tenant farmer’s daughter, anyway?
Now, years later, Anna-Maria is beside herself with joy at finding him fighting in Portugal. She is certain he won’t remember her. She’s wrong. Laurence does remember her. And he realizes how terribly he treated her. His guilt makes it difficult for him to face her now that they are in the same place again.
Anna-Maria believes she has a chance at love. Laurence feels too much shame and regret to act on his wishes to court her. Even though Anna-Maria won’t give up, she worries that it’s too late. That too much has happened to change his mind.
When a tragedy makes Laurence rethink his priorities, will Anna-Maria play into his plan? Or is it really too late?
