Lady Courtney Everly is set to attend her third Season. She is short, plump, and does not fit the standards of perfection set by High Society. Courtney has already accepted that she’ll end up a spinster for the rest of her life. The Season starts off on a high note as Courtney’s younger sister Olivia is deemed the diamond of the Season. Courtney fades into the background as her mother dotes on Olivia. But things change when the dashingly handsome Marquess of Lyningdale comes to her aid at a soiree. Courtney can’t help falling for her knight in shining armor, but there’s a problem. . . he’s taken an interest in Olivia.

Lucas Northington—The Marquess of Lyningdale— has returned to London after spending the last five years away on the Grand Tour. Lucas’s father wishes for him to take over several of his ducal responsibilities. Lucas is then put on the spot when his father suggests a marriage between him and the diamond of the Season. Lucas hasn’t given much thought to marriage but agrees to get to know Olivia. But matters take an unexpected turn when he starts enjoying Courtney’s company more so than Olivia’s.
