Description
Dashing billionaire Ryker Montgomery has just gotten dumped and he’s not too broken up about it—he hadn’t been dating the woman long and the two didn’t have much in common anyway. Except, in a moment of duress, he’d promised his next door neighbor, a world-famous life coach, that he’d attend her couples’ workshop with said ex-girlfriend. Knowing his neighbor would make his life miserable if he didn’t go, he’s scrambling to find a faux replacement.
June Banks’s own failed relationship has thrown her for a loop. She hadn’t thought her long-term boyfriend would leave her so abruptly. Losing herself in her writing has been therapeutic, but her suspense novel has stalled because, due to a shortage of funds, she can’t complete the necessary research on the modern-day remains of ancient Pompeii.
Ryker is intrigued by the beautiful June when they meet at a wedding, and they’re both shocked to discover they have a mutual obsession for all things Pompeii. Using his expertise on the subject, he offers to mentor and teach her all about the ruins around Vesuvius. The only catch? She has to pretend to be in love with him at the week-long workshop.
With the hope of casting aside her writer’s block and excitement over getting to rub shoulders with the life coach she’s always admired, June agrees. They both enjoy flirting and pretending they’re in love, and the sting of their recent break-ups makes it easy to keep each other at arms’ length. But when the mentoring and therapy sessions turn serious, June and Ryker are forced to dig deep. Will they stick to their business agreement and part ways? Or will they acknowledge that their common interests are just the tip of the iceberg, and their feelings really are turning into love?
