Description
French Quarter private detective Wyatt Thomas meets his new client at an unusual death ceremony in a revamped Canal Street movie theater. The man gives Wyatt a bag of cash and a single clue: a solid gold Krewe of Rex, 1948 Mardi Gras doubloon. His only request is for Wyatt to find the person or persons who murdered his mother some fifty years ago. As his client leaves the building, he’s gunned down by members of a strange New Orleans cult. When Wyatt tries to intervene, he’s also shot.
He and Lucy Diamond, a brassy yet beautiful television reporter working the same 50-year-old cold case, go on the run together. The adventure takes them to a CIA-funded monkey lab in the city’s hospital district, an offshore drilling complex converted into a Gulf of Mexico gambling resort, and many dark and mysterious places in the Big Easy which tourists never visit. As the case unfolds, Wyatt and Lucy uncover a conspiracy, political intrigue and the possible identity of those responsible for the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Captured by the bizarre, satanic cult, Wyatt and Lucy find themselves in an antebellum mansion on River Road where they are the intended sacrifices in a satanic ceremony.
