Description
Free-spirited artist Mattie Hardwicke doesn’t fit into polite New York society, so she flees to Gold Rush California to be a mail order bride. But arriving at Paradise Bar, her dreams of starting over are crushed when she finds her husband-to-be dead and her future uncertain.
In the nearby native village, Sakote, destined to be chief of the Konkow tribe, views the rush of invading miners as a threat. But after a Konkow kills Mattie’s bridegroom, tribal custom requires Sakote to look after the white woman. Mattie is instantly enchanted. Sakote realizes the beautiful artist has not only captured his world in her drawings but also his soul . . . and soon they must fight for their forbidden love.
