Description
Eliza O’Connor arrives in the United States from her native Ireland. She must learn to adapt to a new land as well as heal from the loss of her mother and her husband. She longs to help others get well but can’t go to medical school because few colleges accept women. Working at her father’s boarding house, which serves miners seeking their fortunes at Diamond Falls, proves impossible.
When a handsome doctor arrives beaten and stripped of his jacket and boots, she doesn’t hold sympathy for him. He’s probably another gold-hungry cowboy heading for the filthy mine where her brother has ventured.
At his mother’s request, Dr. Levi Dumont leaves his hometown of Boston to find his brother and bring him home. After Levi is robbed and beaten, his trustworthy horse drops him in front of the O’Connor’s Boarding House where the alluring Eliza treats his wounds.
When Eliza’s brother returns from the mines with a broken leg, Eliza learns her friend needs medical attention. Eliza must go to the mines despite the danger of a treacherous journey. When she accompanies Levi to Diamond Falls, Levi discovers affection for Eliza despite his engagement to a woman in Boston.
Though Eliza and Levi come from different worlds, their hopes are the same. Will Eliza find opportunity to study medicine? Can Levi make his way to Eliza despite his fiancé and medical practice in Boston?
