Leah Baxter drove the Nebraska highway toward the setting sun. Leah’s tidy world pivoted off course when Ryan flashed his smile. Once the give-and-take of married life became difficult, Ryan turned abusive. Leah made the courageous decision to keep her son safe.

Tom Anderson fell in love with the freckled-faced Susie in third grade. Five years after their marriage, Susie demanded a promise. “Find Tommy and Lucy a great mother who is loving and strong.”

Leah and Tom find themselves thrown together at Tumbling A ranch. When she first meets Tom, a jolt runs up her back. Then his smile fades. “Are you the new nanny?” She senses his body tense up. Did I say something wrong? With a snap of his reins, he rides off in a cloud of dust.
