Description
When Carmen gets a panicked phone call from Lander in the middle of a blizzard, she doesn’t know what to do. Power cuts out before he can fully explain, and the ranch hands won’t be at Cedar Lodge for another few hours. She jumps on her horse Dax with supplies and races into the snow, and it’s a good thing too. Because what she finds at Lander’s cabin is a man with very little time left. But the biggest danger between them has nothing to do with the storm.
Lander is suffering. He’s not strong enough to see himself clearly and one mistake after another might have Carmen saying goodbye forever. Desperate for relief, he takes a job in another state. He’s convinced himself she’d better off without him, and the pain is drowning out any other choice.
Carmen refuses to crumble. She’s a professional, and after hiding away her pain at watching Lander go, she throws herself into planning an NYC-worthy benefit banquet. But when her friends arrive, wondering where Lander went, she doesn’t have the strength to tell them the truth. Not yet. She only needs to get through the night standing tall in her stiletto heels, and then she’ll tell them.
She never imagined he’d show up at the party.
