Description
Chelby Duncan never knew who her parents were, or why they gave her up.
Knowing when people belong together is what she’s best at doing, but her success at fixing people up isn’t exactly career-worthy. Chelby’s foster father is a retired general who is running for Senate, so joining the army is the natural direction for her to take when she turns eighteen.
At the Military Entrance Processing Station, she is given a blood test and discovers that she’s not human. She’s Fae, and she has second blood type that they can’t identify.
Warned to run before she is taken by Sector Nine, Chelby flees the MEPS. Her panic leads her to an encounter with Dr. Gould, who gives her his card and tells her that the Paranormal Mercenary Corps can help her.
Chelby finds it hard to believe any of this is happening until she returns home and armed men from the mysterious Sector Nine show up to take her away.
On the run for her life, Chelby calls Dr. Gould as a last resort.
The Director of the Paranormal Military Corps takes her to their headquarters in the Colorado Mountains, where she meets other supernaturals and learns about the Fae powers that were suppressed when she was young. Emergent powers she can’t control, a whole new world to fit into, and a mentor who’s determined to help her discover her true potential.
Between training and forging bonds with her new teammates, Chelby has her work cut out for her. It’s enough to put the threat she escaped to the back of her mind . . . for now.
But Sector Nine aren’t done with Chelby, and a betrayal awaits her when a training exercise goes awry.
Will Chelby overcome the heartbreak that awaits her at the secret facility? Can she master her new powers and break free of Sector Nine’s grasp before it’s too late?
