Do you have a lot of books and are looking for ways to display them? Or do you think books make beautiful decoration? We’ve got you covered with these book display ideas! And don’t worry, none of these ideas will make it impossible to, you know, actually read the books when you want to. After all, we’re readers!
1. Shelves that follow the curve of the stairs: Don’t lose that space on that awkwardly shaped stairwell wall! You can add shelves for a beautiful book display.
2. Dollhouse display: A dollhouse is basically a good looking bookcase. You can make your own dollhouse, or buy a simple one like this and add paint and other embellishments to spruce it up.
3. Rolling book cart: This one is pretty simple; it allows you to move your books to wherever is most convenient to place them.
4. Narrow shelves: Don’t have enough room for a full bookshelf? Install narrow shelves like these and turn the covers of your books out. You can line your hallways with these kind of shelves—forget photos and art, you have books!
5. Floor to ceiling shelves: don’t miss an inch of book storage space by adding floor to ceiling shelves. You can also get a step stool that folds up small for storage but allows you to reach the higher shelves.
6. Transform a linen closet: Maybe you have plenty of room for your linens; in that case, you can use your linen closet as a bookcase instead!
7. Window seat shelves: Putting in a window seat? Or do you have a window in a nook-like area that lends itself to a window seat? Don’t waste that space beneath the seat; put in some shelves and put books there.
8. Wall of books: Does your house have dividing walls? You can take off the drywall on one side of the wall and screw in horizontal plywood pieces between the studs. Paint it all and voila! A beautiful bookcase! If you haven’t done these types of projects before, definitely consult with an expert before attempting this.
9. Under the coffee table: Don’t waste that space under the coffee table. You can insert the books with their spines up in a cubby and just slide the cubby under the coffee table. Slide it out to view all the available books (and pick one out to read, of course). If you’ve got a glass-topped coffee table, you can even see the beautiful books without sliding out the cubby.
10. Windowsill: Have an extra wide windowsill? My house has huge inset windowsills that make a perfect shelf for books!
11. Along the staircase: Don’t waste all that wall space along the stairs! You can install stepped shelves that allow you to enjoy viewing your books as you go up and down the stairs. (I seriously hate walking up and down the stairs, so this is a huge bonus for me.)
12: Staircase railing: Stairs are so versatile! You can transform your staircase railing into a half bookshelf like this couple did here.
Other Ideas
Want to spruce up book displays already in place? Here are some fun options!
1. Fun bookends
2. Mirror on the back of the shelves (makes the shelves look bigger!)
3. Bookish shelf art
4. Plants
5. Knickknacks (I love collecting knickknacks from other places around the world and placing them next to books that take place in that same location)
