"Author Holly Kerr has created a fabulous new genre "Women's Adventure Chick Lit"HappyReader

There are reasons Tenley Scott doesn’t date. Even when her daughter suggests she needs a social life, she can’t take the plunge. But when Colin Darcy, the very cute Brit who’s become a regular at her coffee shop, offers to buy her a drink, she can’t say no.

But she should have.

Because Colin isn’t who he seems.

Tenley’s simple life is spun around as she’s pulled into a world of spies and secret agents and a race to save the life of someone named Charlotte Dodd.

The Best, Worst First Date Ever is the sequel to the action-packed chick-lit The Secret Life of Charlotte Dodd, full of good guys, bad dates, and the cute Brit in between.

Review

"This book was nonstop excitement from beginning to end. At first, it seemed like a typical chick lit novel: Tenley is a single mom going out on her first date in a long while with a geeky but cute British guy. But then during the date, things take a really unexpected turn, and it ends up being the craziest date ever." Annabelle Costa, author of Crazy in Love"Author Holly Kerr has created a fabulous new genre "Women's Adventure Chick Lit". Yes, there's some foodie elements, and some kissing and good-looking guys but what makes this an over-the top- exciting new read is the non-stop action, intrigue and adventure. And the stars of this thriller are strong, purposeful, beautiful... women!" - HappyReader"What a delight. I enjoyed every minute of it. It was funny, surprising and unexpected." - WindRider

Author Holly Kerr has created a fabulous new genre “Women’s Adventure Chick Lit”. Yes, there’s some foodie elements, and some kissing and good-looking guys but what makes this an over-the top- exciting new read is the non-stop action, intrigue and adventure. And the stars of this thriller are strong, purposeful, beautiful… women!

Since her divorce, Tenley has been living a careful life and is an involved and nurturing mother of her young daughter. She also has her own café business and that’s the extent of her world. Tenley’s friends, her daughter and even her ex-husband organize an intervention to get her to lead a bolder life. Turns out they succeeded!

One weekend, Tenley agrees to a first date with Colin Firth, an Englishman who seems shy, nervous and friendly. The date begins with awkward conversation and a drink at a pub. And that’s the best part of this first date. The rest of the weekend brings non-stop action thriller spy missions for Tenley! Really!

“This is definitely the worst date I’ve ever been on. I’ve been assaulted, crashed a car, and kidnapped at gun point.”

Tenley has been chosen to receive the memories of another woman spy, Charlotte Dodd, aka “Canada’s favorite spy”. I applaud the author for this creative plot twist. Charlotte’s story was covered in an earlier book in this series, which I have not read. This didn’t stop me from being captivated by the story. I look forward to reading more books about Tenley- will any of the men she met turn into something special? Will she continue in the spy business?

In addition to the good character development, solid action writing and thriller plot, I also enjoyed the quotes that started each chapter, such as “Don’t be a woman who needs a man. Be a woman a man needs.” Grab this best book about the worst date!

This was a pretty good story with a lot of action. It was a fun book to read. I would read more in the series.

I have to say that the short Prologue made an interesting hook. And the rest of the book? What a delight. I enjoyed every minute of it. It was funny, surprising and unexpected. Each chapter had a short quote by different people at the beginning of it. I found myself really looking forward to that part too.
Tenley had some surprising depths to her. She looks like an every day normal busy woman. A divorced woman, a single mother, a businesswoman who is co-owner of a cafe/restaurant. Her young daughter Lucy helps keeps her going in so many ways. Tenley is also a twin sister and although that part of the story doesn't play that deeply at first, it will contain some surprises.

There were plenty of good, interesting people who added to the cast of people. But they were introduced in an easy to follow way.
I did spend a fair amount of time bouncing back and forth trying to figure out Colin (Tenley's date). Is he a good guy, a bad guy or does he fall somewhere in the middle? Is he just someone who shyly admires Tenley and asked her for a date or is there more going on?

Tenley's encounters with Charlotte are just this side of weird in a fun kind of way. After all Tenley has some of Charlotte's memories. She has memories of her brothers, Ham and some of Lottie's missions. It does lead to some embarrassment because the private nature of some of those memories.

There are several surprises that come at the end of the book. Two that I suspected but it was nice to have it confirmed. And the way that it came out was done quite nicely. If you like a good amount of action in a story this book provided that too. It was something I personally enjoyed a lot.
I enjoyed this book so much that I will be looking for more by this author. Especially if it is a continuation of the Charlotte Dodd stories.
It just seemed like I zoomed right through the book and it was over before I knew it.

I received a ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion of it.

I'm usually a stickler for reading a series in order, but jumped into this one in the middle. Not having read the short story prequel and first book in the series, I'm sure I've missed a few things, but Holly did a decent job filling in some of the back story. I wasn't completely lost though I'm definitely going to go back and read the previous two because I've got a ton of questions swirling around in my brain.

That said, I loved meeting Tenley, Charlotte, and the rest of the cast of characters, and the concept of a Chick Lit Adventure story is genius. The action was fast paced making this an easy read to get sucked into. My trusty iPad read the book to me at super speed, and I'm almost wishing I'd read it without so the book lasted a bit longer. Fortunately, I do have the prequel and book one to read now and can't wait to do so.

Kudos to Holly on a great storyline! I'm excited to see what book three brings!

This book is every bit as good as the first one. It stands on its own, so don't worry if you didn't read the other.

Tenley is a single mother and a co-owner of a restaurant. She has no time for dating. But her family and friends think otherwise. Even her nine year old daughter chimes in. So when a good looking, seemingly shy customer asks her out, she accepts. Thus begins the best, worst first date ever. I think that's a fair assessment. Colin Darcy (Now, why do I love that name?) seems to be a likeable guy. But the date quickly goes bad in ways that will make your head spin. From then on, the action is nonstop. I'm with everyone else. I kept switching my view of Colin, back and forth. The ending was very satisfactory, but left me longing for more adventures. I will be waiting for more books from this author.

I highly recommend this book. And if you haven't read the first, grab it. You'll love it. I was given a review copy of this book, but the decision to review was my own. The opinions I have expressed are my honest views.
