The Patriot Bride was a look at the danger that lurked for all who fought for our country’s freedom from Britain. There were fierce warriors on both sides of the war, and each thought they knew what was best. Family became your enemies, and no one knew who to trust. In the midst of all this, strong alliances were formed, and friends became family. Getting information to those in charge was imperative, and the messages couldn’t be obvious in case they fell into the wrong hands. I was rooting for the Patriots and holding my breath when danger was surrounding them. Woodhouse had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. I enjoyed getting to imagine another side of George Washington, and his love for Faith his dearest friend. Faith was not only wealthy, but quite beautiful as well. Having experienced loss at such a young age, she would love to be in love again. The only problem is that most men just want her for her fortune. When she meets Matthew she feels sparks that are unlike anything she’s felt before. Being in the middle of a war is no time to fall in love, especially when he’s a spy. Can their feelings be true? And will they ever be able to see if they can grow into something more? I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review. I was so excited to read another of Daughters of the Mayflower Series. I knew The Patriot Bride would be exciting because Kimberley Woodhouse also wrote the first in this series, The Mayflower Bride. If you like a well written romantic, historical, fiction book, with lots of excitement and adventure, this is a must read. Faith Jackson, a very rich widow and Matthew Weber, a close friend of George Washington are both spies for the Patriot cause. If you have read the other books in this series, Faith's maiden name is Lytton. That is where she fits in the family tree that connects her to the Mayflower ancestors. Faith was best friends with George Washington growing up, even though he was several years older. Their farms were next to each other and their fathers were very close. When Faith was orphaned due to a fire in her home, she became the ward of George. He was only 20 at the time and his father too had passed. The story contains several other characters from history. Benjamin Franklin, William Franklin, and Paul Revere, to name a few. Whether parts were actual or written using artistic liberties, I found this story exciting and entertaining. I would recommend this book. I received this book from Barbour Publishing through NetGalleys. The opinions expressed in this book are my own
