Oh, my gosh did I love this series! At first I wasn't sure I was going to like it, because the POV character, Andy, seemed kind of a jerk; however, the story still drew me in just enough to start seeing how the things happening to Andy were gradually altering him. The best part of this series is how well the 'strange' becomes normal as you go, and characters who would have seemed like monsters if presented differently became just another person in the story, only later to be revealed as something 'other' — once it's too late to see them that way. I love Inspector Hobbes and Mrs. Goodfellow so much, and their gradually developing back stories, and how they interact with Andy. I don't want to be too spoilery, but it's such a temptation, because I really want to squeeze about most of the things in this series, and yet I don't want to take away anyone's delight in their discovery! There are many other characters that I enjoyed immensely, and some of the weird happenings — as well as the characters' reactions to them — made me laugh out loud and stay up late, way too late, reading and reading greedily. Anyone who enjoys humor, oddities, the bizarre made normal, and just really good writing, should definitely read these books.

There is plenty of wit going round in these books and you quickly grow to love the characters for all their quirks. I highly recommend getting cozied up with this series and I want to go into great detail, but I think it is best that you discover these stories for yourself, lol.

About the author

Wilkie Martin sets his Unhuman series of novels in the Cotswolds, where he lives with his partner. He introduces readers to a close-knit, small-town community filled with quirky and occasionally dangerous inhabitants, and an 'unhuman' policeman who maintains law and order. Wilkie intersperses writing his novel with short stories and funny poems, which he enjoys performing and uploading to YouTube. His stories reflect his love of the enigmatic, with memorable characters and, like many of the latter, he has a taste for curry. He is a qualified scuba instructor and has dived in many places around the world and in the UK.
