A good enough storyline, but the underlying prejudice beneath the entire premise ruined it. It took the book's whole no-more-racism-we're-all-one-people message and killed it with an obvious prejudice against the Middle East. How this book became Land of the Free against overseas terrorists is just beyond me. It was honestly rather tasteless, and could have been handled in a way that didn't bring modern politics --- and ethnocentricity --- into play. Andre Norton did a much better job with post-apocalyptic Earth and paranormal humans.

I thought it was a really good read. I would have gave 5 stars but the way the characters "talked" in the old English like way sometimes confused me and I would have to re-read the sentence. Mostly when I was tired because that's when I do my reading. Also if you do read like I do while going to sleep and you're prone to dreams be prepared because I had some doozies while reading this one with strange creatures and weird world's lol but that was a good thing I guess.
