About this ebook

The Alliance has toppled the tyrannical empire. It should be a time for celebration, but not for fighter pilot Captain Alisa Marchenko. After barely surviving a crash in the final battle for freedom, she's stranded on a dustball of a planet, billions of miles from her young daughter. She has no money or resources, and there are no transports heading to Perun, her former home and the last imperial stronghold.

But she has a plan.

Steal a dilapidated and malfunctioning freighter from a junkyard full of lawless savages. Slightly suicidal, but she believes she can do it. Her plan, however, does not account for the elite cyborg soldier squatting in the freighter, intending to use it for his own purposes. As an imperial soldier, he has no love for Alliance pilots. In fact, he's quite fond of killing them.

Alisa has more problems than she can count, but she can't let cyborgs, savages, or ancient malfunctioning ships stand in her way. If she does, she’ll never see her daughter again.

Fans of Firefly and Star Wars should enjoy this fun, fast-paced space opera series from USA Today best-selling author, Lindsay Buroker. If you like to wait and binge-read, the series is now complete at eight novels.

fast paced but still written well with character development when needed. Definite Firefly inspiration (good thing), however I thought the lead was sometimes (not often) too flippant for the theme of the moment. Overall, I enjoyed it and would recommend it. Looking forward to the next book.

Loved it! I read Star Nomad while away on a warm, tropical vacation to escape Melbourne's cold winter. And this book is perfect SciFi adventure escapism! Lindsay Buroker's story features the same whimsical, out of this universe fun as the original/ first Star Wars movie (the one from way back in 1977); the book is full of epic space battles, harrowing narrow escapes, crazy escapades and quirky characters. I was drawn right into the world that Lindsay has created and was quickly drawn to the characters and their plights and perils. I read the book in a few days on vacation and had to jump straight into Book 2 Honor's Flight, which is even better. The Fallen Empire series has 9 books in total and usually this would overwhelm me and turn me away from reading, but so far each book has been a quick, engaging read and I am so drawn into the story that I can't wait to read more.

The first book in this series. Also the first female sci fi Author I've ever sampled. It starts off like Firefly, but the plot twists, plenty of action, and Alisa (the main character) with her unique sense of humor in the face of danger, keeps me chuckling while flipping the pages. I Scored a boxed set from Google Play. Not sure how long the deal will last...
