I thoroughly enjoyed reading this Ollie Stratford Mystery. I laughed out loud when at the beginning Ollie thought she was doing someone a favor and ended up holding the bag so to say. This is a delightful and fast moving mystery with a little bit of this and that thrown in. But it's not so much thrown in that it's hard to wade through. Perfect proportions and everything gels together to make a great cozy mystery. I love reading cozies between some really hard hitting books, they renew my faith in writers as I sometimes think writing a cozy is harder than not! I subscribe to N.C. Lewis and I'm so glad I found this author!

Grab all 4 of these books in the series. You won't be disappointed.

Just finished “Texas Trouble” and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m 70 years old and am by no means a prude when it comes to salty language (I am anArmy Vet), but it is so refreshing to not have to put up with that in a book, especially having put away some that I really otherwise was beginning to enjoy. The storyline was gripping and character personalities were engaging — even those otherwise distasteful characters. Wish the story were a bit longer, but that just makes me want to buy the next in the series all that much more.

This is one of those books you can get for free on Amazon, and I am really glad that I did! I am also really glad that the author states that more books are planned. I started this book not expecting much but ended up really enjoying this book. The story was great and the characters only add to that. It is loaded with excitement at every turn, from the start with the accidental purchase by Ollie, her obstacles in her new life and the murders. It was well written and I am looking forward to more of Ollie's adventures.

A bit of a slow start. Also not enough backstory of the main protaganist's friend for me to feel invested in what happened with Tanner or his martial arts studio. The characters felt rather flat and 2 dimensional. The dog Bodie had more personailty then some of the people in the town. Wish there was more dialogue with Ma Jenkins. I feel like she had the potential to be an interesting character but there just wasn't enough there. The descriptions of places were fantastic but the descriptions of people fell rather short. Even after reading the whole book I feel like all I know about the main character is that she likes drinking coffee and that she's a teacher. Overall I think the plot was good but the writing just needs more in depth character development. The barista at he coffeeshop was kind of a fun character. More descriptions of the way things feel or smell would help bring this charming Texas town more alive for me.

Overall the story is good! Entertaining characters and cute situations plus a good mystery. However, for some reason I had a hard time getting into this at first. I'm not sure what it is but the book could flow better. Also, in a few passages I got the feeling this was written by a foreigner trying to sound like they were U. S. or even Texas natives. I am a Texas native. One glaring irk to me was saying she put a "mosquito grate on the window"! Really? a grate? It is a screen, a WINDOW SCREEN. I liked the story overall and will probably try the next in this series if I find it for free or in my public library. Good luck!

This was an intriguing mystery that kept me guessing! I kind of had an idea of who did it but not really why so I kept thinking maybe it was someone else.

Ollie Stratford accidentally won a Texas homestead so she decided to make the best of it. Widowed and between college professor jobs, she found the place to be really run-down but had a great idea for it, an event center. At first everyone in the town seemed friendly and eager to help but after the murder of a good friend she was planning to meet back up with, someone seemed to be telling her to leave the investigation alone.

I really liked the regular characters of this town, especially Ollie's friend Tanner's uncle even though he wasn't in it a whole lot. They mostly seemed like people I'd want to be friends with. I loved that the homestead came with a dog and at the end, he helped save the day along with a resident homeless guy, Simpkins. Things ended well for Ollie and I'm assuming those at fault were getting their due punishment.

There was definitely a diverse mixture of personalities and I'm anxious to return to the next book and see how Ollie is progressing with her plans for the homestead.

I truly enjoyed reading this book. Character descriptions were great. I could see them in my mind. Some of them resembled people I know. The book is well written. It pulls you along from one chapter to the next. I'm a Texan and have lived in Austin. There are several small towns in the Hill Country similar to the town in this book. I recommend this book.

As it turns out I read book number two first. Not remembering the author I was delighted as I started this book to recognize the main character Ollie Stratford.

Ollie moves to Texas hill country from New York to retire. Unfortunately, her best friend who lives in town is murdered upon her arrival. Ollie tries to find the murderer while fixing up her new home and trying to deal with the locals. Things aren't going well but she persists until she finds the murderer.

I truly enjoy the writing style of the author. No foul language, sex or overly explicit details of the deaths. A great cozy mystery.

This book is a good start of a new series. Ollie buys a property in a quaint little town, where one of her friends owns a dojo. Everything seems ok, until her friend is found dead. More deaths follow and it’s up to Ollie to find out the truth.

I quite enjoyed this story. I think Ollie was a little naïve and maybe should have clued into the issues a little quicker. I found the hand puppets quite annoying. The characters and plot could have been fleshed out a bit more but overall it was quite a good story .
There were a couple of editing issues but with a little work it should be improved. I will be reading the next story.
I got this book through Kindle Unlimited.

I enjoyed this little cosy mystery and even though I had worked out who the killer was and why I still enjoyed the book and will be following up with book two. Ollie is a very likeble main character and with a few eccentric village character thrown into the mix I found myself wondering why Ollie was sticking around with no friends, no money, no roof, no air con it sure makes village life hard and that's before the murder investigation starts....... Well with a police chief more worried about his holiday than a body what else is a girl to do?
