About this ebook

In this smart, gripping thriller from USA Today bestselling author Melissa F. Miller, federal prosecutor Aroostine Higgins’ most critical vulnerability is exposed.

Government records, medical equipment, elevators, security alarms … they’re all remotely controlled and monitored by computerized industrial control systems. It’s convenient, efficient, and potentially deadly.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Aroostine Higgins has put her personal life on hold to join the Department of Justice’s elite Criminal Division. She’s about to prosecute a major bribery trial—one that could make or break her career.

But everything’s going wrong.

Her pretrial motion vanishes from the federal court’s electronic docketing system. Her apartment catches fire. Routine dental surgery turns into a near-death experience. By the time Aroostine realizes her string of bad luck is anything but random, the stakes are greater than the outcome of a high-profile court case.

Determined to win at any cost, a hidden enemy threatens to destroy her—and the only man she’s ever loved—unless she can stop him. Now, it’s personal.

Sorry Melissa, for me, this book was a little bit wishy washy. There was no "strong" hero. All the characters were kinda weak. If anything l liked Rosie and Mitchell. They had better personalities than Roo and Joe. My personal pet peeve - l hate it when l don't know how to pronounce the name of one of the main characters. Avril C

A story told with skill and imagination. The characters are quite real and the ending, while not exactly surprising, was strong and told with warmth and strength. This woman is a writer who knows how to build her tale with interest and involving patterns of surprise, fear and ultimate reward. You can feel the care and thought of the characters. It is a story easy to follow and well worth reading.

This one kept me awake for an entire night reading. Pulse pounding moments, realistic characters, suspense and rooting for the good guys made it a page turner. I love the main character Aroostine and her warrior ways. This spiritual aspect of her upbringing was indeed fascinating. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great read to curl up with at night, or on a lazy day. 10 thumbs up!

About the author

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Melissa F. Miller was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Although life and love led her to Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and, ultimately, South Central Pennsylvania, she secretly still considers Pittsburgh home.

In college, she majored in English literature with concentrations in creative writing poetry and medieval literature and was stunned, upon graduation, to learn that there's not exactly a job market for such a degree. After working as an editor for several years, Melissa returned to school to earn a law degree. She was that annoying girl who loved class and always raised her hand. She's clerked for a federal judge, worked for major international law firms, and started a two-person law firm with her lawyer husband.

Now, powered by coffee, she writes crime fiction and homeschools her children. When she's not writing, and sometimes when she is, Melissa travels around the country in an RV with her husband, three kids, and their cat.
