Fantastic read, an a absolutely fun start to the whole deal. You get enough information on all the characters to proceed, but the initial world building is somewhat lacking. The battles are much the same way, although that's a plus since one doesn't want to be bogged down with specifications. Overall the book is a great introduction, and there's enough there for any military sci-fi fan to enjoy. I look forward to reading the rest.

A very nice telling of a first contact situation where we are the ones with inferior technology. In pacing it reminds me of a Ludlum novel, very hard to find a break in the action so you can put the book down. Though hinted at the aliens motivation is not revealed until the teaser for the next book in the series and even then there are large questions remaining. A good read. I will eventually get more of the series.

Hicks is the General Eisenhower of futuristic warfare. He is able to combine space and land combat scenes seamlessly in a coherent, fast-paced narrative that's easy to read. A lot of characters to root for, but isn't confusing or overwhelming. Not a supernatural romance novel.☺
