WILHELMINA FREDRICKSON is a twenty-eight year old divorce attorney in Minnesota. Single, she still lives with her over-protective Mother, Sabrina. Her younger brother Adam is a college frat-boy. As she is leaving her office for a Friday night date with her sports-enthusiast boyfriend Kent, she receives a call from an Attorney in Napa Valley, California. The attorney advises she is the sole heir to her Uncle Jack Fredrickson's estate, which includes the Fredrickson Vineyards. Her Mother accompanies her on the trip to California for the memorial and reading of the Will. She is reminded by her mother that she had visited her Uncle Jack with her mother and father when she was about eight years old. She had NO memory of the visit.
Ms. BRINK takes great care in developing each character in this outstanding novel. She lets the reader get to know each character just a little piece at a time; much like one would get to know a new neighbor, a new friend, perhaps a new soul-mate. You easily form a mental picture of each; from their physical appearance, manner of dress, personality and mannerisms. You are not given a lump-sum description of the characters. Ms. Brink's style in character development is careful, real, she's a pro at this.
Wilhelmina, who goes by her childhood nick-name, "BILLIE" soon learns the attorney is a handsome young man who had worked for her Uncle Jack at the Vineyards, as he was attending college. Shortly after arriving at the Vinyards, Billie begins having recurring nightmares. Soon, secrets are revealed to her from her dearly departed Uncle. A secret room in the basement of the Winery; a cache of hidden photos revealing a deep family secret. There's more . . . a stack of polaroid photos of naked young girls . . . a suicide . . . Billie's respect for her Uncle crushed . . . still more, but I don't want to spoil a good read for anyone.
If you enjoy a great mystery, well plotted with living characters that will keep you at bated breath from beginning to end, I highly recommend this book. I purchased and read the Kindle Edition, now I must order the Paperback for my collection. This is a book that could easily spring to life on the Silver or even the small screen. I guarantee you, once you start reading you cannot put this book down. After reading this, I am certain you will follow my lead and purchase "CRUSHED" by BARBARA ELLEN BRINK. "CRUSHED" is a continuation of BILLIE FREDRICKSON's transformation from attorney to Vintner.
Personally, I can't wait to read "CRUSHED".
FIVE STARS for a very extraordinary masterpiece by a very talented Author.

Billie Frederickson, a Minnesota divorce attorney, inherits her uncle Jack's winery. Having visited California only once when she was eight, Billie is puzzled by the bequest and troubled by nightmares that are somehow connected to that visit. As she attempts to delve into her memory of the childhood visit, Billie begins to learn troubling facts about her family and about winery employees. Supported emotionally by Handel Parker, her uncle's attorney and her childhood companion, Billie is able to overcome her demons. A romantic involvement with Handy and the realization that she must choose to live life on her own terms, allow Billie to begin her life as a winery owner.
Barbara Ellen Brink is an excellent writer. "Entangled (A Fredrickson Winery Novel)" was written in an intelligent manner, without the use of profanity or graphic detail. The characters, while somewhat unoriginal, are still interesting and engaging. The answers to some of the mysteries or troubling past incidents are not all patently obvious and keep the reader going as they seek the final solutions. I noticed no glaring formatting issues associated with this Kindle book.
If you enjoy mysteries having a strong female protagonist, a bit of romance, and a satisfying conclusion, you will enjoy "Entangled (A Fredrickson Winery Novel)." I liked it and hope you will too.
