"Author Aubrey Wynne brings a swashbuckling epic story of family, love and betrayal to life in "Rolf's Quest". The structure of the story is done well -- it is long on action and moves at breakneck speed. The plot is perfectly paced, with characters that will pull the reader right into the action. They are likable and readers will root for Rolf and Melissa throughout their struggles. The strength of their bond will keep readers glued to their seat right until the very last page. Hold onto your helmet, readers, and grab a shield -- Rolf is just around the corner."~ InD'tale magazine"This was a surprisingly smooth read that I flew through in practically one sitting. I loved how easily I was immersed in this medieval world filled with royalty, knights, wizards, and villains. The magical element was interesting and I liked the way Merlin's story was woven into this book. The plot sucked me in and I thoroughly enjoyed following Rolf's journey. In closing... A story with pretty much everything a fantasy romance fan can want. 4.5 stars" ~ Romance Reviews
"I was captivated by the historical romance from the first page and honestly, didn't want it to end. Wynne is historically accurate throughout the book, from the clothing to historical people/events to how society behaves and even cultural traditions (such as weddings and coronations). I was immersed in the 12th century and it was glorious... At the end, Rolf's Quest is a testament to love and lovers. It reminded me of The Princess Bride as well as Ladyhawk. I highly recommend it and I can't wait to read the next installment in this series!" ~ N.N. Light Book Reviews

This is what the story is about: The story takes place between 1139 A.D. and 1154 A.D. As the tale begins we learn that Merlin has been cursed because of a spell that he cast on a woman he loved. The spell was to make the woman love him. The curse she cast upon Merlin can only be broken by the first born son of Merlin's descendants. In the autumn of 1139 A.D., in the Caledonian Forest of Scotland, Rolf sees his father talking to a tree. The tree turned out to be a curse that bound Merlin, a legendary sorcerer. Rolf, a first born son of Merlin's descendants, and the father asks Merlin to take Rolf and train him in hopes the curse on Merlin can finally be broken. Rolf's task is to find true love without the use of spells or trickery. Rolf already has the woman of his dreams in mind, Melissa. The only problem: Melissa is already betrothed to Charles Roker, a Duke in the Court of King Henry II. The engagement was arranged by Melissa's family. Alas, the arrangement was made not for love but to strengthen alliances between families. But Melissa begins having dreams about a young man with dark hair. While traveling to London to meet Charles Roker, Melissa meets Rolf in the forest along the way. When the two meet they instantly fall in love. At the coronation of King Henry, King Henry asks Melissa if she really wants to marry Charles Roker. She tells King Henry that she does not love Charles and does not want to marry him. Now, can Melissa and Rolf find love with each other or will the loyalty to her family's wishes override her love for Rolf. Shape shifting and wizardry, love vs. loyalty, bring this story alive amongst the famed history of King Henry II.

I really enjoyed this story. I thought it was very interesting because it was set in a historical romance in the 100 A.D. time period. A time when Kings and Queens and Dukes and Princesses ruled the nations. It was a time when families betrothed their sons and daughters to gain power and favor. This author handles this with skill and detail to the historical record. The characters in this novel were very well developed, memorable and strong. Rolf and Melissa represent young lovers in every generation. Love is magical in and of itself but with the powers of a sorcerer thrown in it gives the story unexpected twists and turns. This story captivates you from the very beginning and holds you spellbound. I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves a great love story.

Happy Reading Everyone!

I rather enjoyed Rolf's Quest. It was a wonderful love story with intrigue and suspense all mixed into. You start out with a little of the explanation about the curse that has fallen on Rolf's family and you learn that he is the last one who may break the curse. We are then introduced to Melissa and learn that she is the one that Rolf is destined for. Melissa, though, is set to be married to another man to better the treaty between two different countries. From there, you get some twists and turns and find yourself rooting for their love.

It wasn't your normal love story, as it had magic mixed in, as well as some shape-shifting. It had an interesting storyline that made you think and almost consider what you would do in a situation like that. While some of the twists were expected, it didn't stop me from wanting to finish the book. It was a wonderful read that gave you that good, content feeling you get from a happy ending. If you like magic, suspense, and a love story, then you should read this book.

I can say without any hesitation that Rolf’s Quest is one of the best romance novels that I have ever read. I was a bit hesitant to read it because so many books in the romance genre follow a very basic formula. Girl meets boy, they fall in love, an obstacle tears them apart, and then they find their way back to each other. It’s obviously a successful equation considering how popular the romance genre has become and Ms. Wynne definitely follows the same basic storyline. What is different about her book is all of the little details she has added, such as a brilliantly descriptive setting and characters who are not only likeable but even, in some ways, relatable.
Rolf’s Quest is set during the reign of Henry II soon after he took the throne. Rolf is a wizard who is trying to break a curse set on Merlin many generations ago. The first male of each generation to fall in love without the help of magic will free Merlin from the tree he is captured in. None have succeeded so far until Rolf who has dreamed about Melissa for as long as he can remember. The only problem is that she is betrothed to the handsome yet cruel Duke of Sunderland. Okay, so it does sound cheesy and yes, the cover is of a generic long haired and buff Adonis that so often graces the covers of romance novels but I swear it is so worth reading.
The setting is what first drew me in. Ms. Wynne creates for the reader a time that is as richly woven as the tapestries hanging on the castle walls. The characters are well developed and entertaining and each have their own unique history. Whether you love them or love to hate them, you won’t be disappointed in their dimensionality. The women, in particular Melissa, are strong and have minds of their own, something not very common during this time period. Merlin is a crusty old curmudgeon, even while trapped in a tree. I even like Charles, Melissa’s betrothed, even though he does turn out to be a horse’s behind. I can’t believe I am going to say this but I hope there is more to come in Rolf and Melissa’s story so that I can enjoy another book in the series.
I read this on my ereader and it formatted well. As I previously wrote, the cover is the usual and expected cover from a book in the romance genre.
