4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 140 ratings

Once bitten, twice shy…Monty Chapman returns to Polson’s Crossing, Texas, claiming to be a changed man now that he’s a Christian. While continuing to work as a song-writer, he dreams of establishing a rescue mission. More than anything, Monty longs to put his family back together. Can he overcome the shady reputation he earned in his home town and persuade the love of his life to give him another chance? Lacy Chapman was devastated when Monty deserted her to pursue a career in music, but that was ten years ago. Now her life consists of running Pearl’s Roadhouse and taking care of her teen-aged daughters. As others begin to accept Monty’s new-found piety, Lacy remains unconvinced. She is certain he has come home to take the Roadhouse away from her. This charming rogue broke her heart once, and she does not intend to let him do it again.

Enjoyed this book immensely. Knew it would have a happy ending, but really enjoyed getting there. God is good and does amazing things. Even though this is fiction it could be true.

When Monty Chapman returns to Poulson’s Crossing hoping to reconnect with the wife and daughters he walked away from ten years ago, no one will believe he’s a changed man. His mother, Pearl, even has her doubts.

The story of the lives of the Chapman’s and Monty’s return is played out against the backdrop of a small Texas town, and the family owned restaurant where three generations of Chapmans work. The novel is delightful.

Ms. Havel has woven a multi-faceted story with the heartwarming tale of a family putting the pieces back together. I couldn’t stay away from it for long – wonderful summer read.

Lacy has had a rough time raising g her daughters alone. Monty went away to be a song writer. As older adults they both thought the worst.n shocking end of story.

3.5. I got caught up in this story but was disappointed with how abruptly it ended. It felt like the author just rushed to write the ending like a student would do with an assignment that was late.
