About this ebook

Curvy Girl Romance Series - USA Today Bestselling contemporary romance author

Who needs men when you have cupcakes?

Life was good. I didnā€™t need anything. Especially not a sexy, funny, sweet stranger who wanted to go on a date.

My friends told me to give him a chance, but I knew heā€™d take one look at my curvy body and come up with a reason not to go out again. So, I gave him an out.

He didnā€™t take it.

The man was relentless. HeĀ likedĀ my curves, and he wanted more than just phone calls. He wantedĀ me.

How could I say no to that?

The main female character has a lot of insecurities and problems with herself, and constantly takes them out on her friends and others. I can't tell if we are supposed to root for her or not? If I was the male lead, I might have given up by the third time. I wanted to like this book, being self conscious and bigger like her, but I just can't handle her attacking everyone around her every time she misconstrued something. I'm almost finished with the book, and she is still doing it. I almost don't want to read the rest. I wanted to like this book more than I did.

This book should require a trigger warning for anyone who has been sexually abused. The lead male in this book is downright creepy! I read this because I am chubby and thought it would be nice to see an overweight heroine "get the hot guy". But I was appalled by the way the guy controlled her and was constantly touching her. I can't recommend this book. It gave me the heebie-jeebies!

I don't often write reviews about books I didn't finish, but although I had to abandon this one, I just wanted to leave a heads up for others. The main character was just too hard to like. I'm a larger woman and was looking forward to reading about a character I could share something with, but this one felt too stereotypical and not enough real world. For a character who claimed to be accepting of who she was and what that might mean for her life, she was incredibly harsh to herself and those around her. After she attacked our hero on exactly zero provocation, I just couldn't get behind her anymore. This one just didn't do it for me.

About the author

Mary E. Thompson grew up loving to read, like a good little girl. Many nights she would fall asleep with the flashlight still turned on as she hid under the covers trying to finish the last few pages of a book. As an adult, the light from her ereader means she doesn't need a flashlight, but she still stays up way too late to finish a book.Ā

When Mary's not reading, she's playing with her two kids or living out her own real life romance novel with her hubby. She has a weakness for chocolate, especially when it's paired with peanut butter, and has been known to have a bad day just because there's no chocolate in the house. Unless thereā€™s wine. Then everything is okay.Ā

Mary grew up in Buffalo, New York and swears she's the only local to never ski or snowboard. Soccer was always her sport, with a couple adventures white water rafting and skydiving to keep things interesting. Mary moved to South Carolina for college but missed Buffalo every day. Yeah, she thinks she's crazy, too. She somehow convinced her South Carolina born and bred hubby to return to Buffalo to raise their kids and live out their lives. Heā€™s still not sure what he was thinking.
