Organizing your home & life when you have ADHD has great ideas to get organized, which helps with focus. Book highly recommended

I tend to read books about decluttering more than I actually declutter, so I wondered if ADHD is a concern, so I got this book and here we are.

Like many cleaning books, it comes up with quirky concepts. The doom piles and blitzcleaning (not even sure if that's right) didn't stick with me much.

The last sentence here, however, sang my song:

"Anything stored in the bathroom cabinet for the sake of storing was, in fact, clutter. If it serves no function and isn’t used often, it only gets in the way of trying to reach for the essential items. Growing accustomed to seeing things occupying spaces where they serve no purpose is what lays the groundwork for normalizing chaos."

Much of the advice seemed too simplified, like explaining to a child how to clean their room. Perhaps this is because I don't have ADHD, and this works better for those with it. I'm rating on the generous side as I'm not the targeted audience, but still walked away with some helpful tips.

This is the 3rd Kai Jordan book I've read and once again I'm completely blown away by the amount of valuable information she packs into her books that's delivered in such a conversational and delightful tone. This book I couldn't put down. The focus zone exercises were truly eye-opening and the solutions to the everyday challenges I face as an ADHDer were simple to implement. I highly recommend this book to anyone who deals with ADHD or has a loved one who deals with ADHD. I can't wait to read Kai's next book!.

I was impressed on how the author honed in on ADHD tendencies with 5-minute exercises. Yes, I can manage 5-minutes! "In the same way that people pay monthly rent to continue living in an apartment, tidying is the new rent we must pay to continue living in the orderly oasis we're about to create. That rent may seem expensive, but it is the price that everyone must pay to keep their spaces neat and clean; that much is obvious." "The ADHD mind is wired to avoid aversive tasks such as chores and other similarly repetitive and mundane tasks. Pairing an aversive task with a reward helps offset the unpleasant feeling of the aversive task." I wasn't able to relate to body doubling, but find the Urgency Importance Matrix is a new tool to help me sort through what's truly urgent and important. I'm excited for the new organized me in 2024!

The survey of the book looks to be really good, but ironically I keep getting distracted from reading it. Will come back to finish when I get more read.

I am diagnosed with ADHD and I was so excited to read this book! I need something in my life to help me get organized and get control of it! This book is amazing and I highly recommend it!

It has amazing tips and information about how to get organized, improve focus, and it even has information on money management strategies. Another thing that this book has is about digital distractions and how to declutter it. That’s amazing! This book has everything you need to help you better yourself. There was a section on prioritization and how to recognize distractions too. This author has thought of so many things to help those with ADHD! I truly appreciate it! I am using many things from this book to help myself to better my life! I highly appreciate it! Thank you!.

Overall I would give this book a 3.5. The body double, focus zones, and blitz clutter techniques were too complicated for me personally. She was spot on describing ADHD behavior patterns that cause us problems. She explained the ‘‘Doom Pile’ and ‘Adversive Tasks’ and those lables helped me understand my own self better. Some of her other labels were hard to keep track of. I found the prioritizing exercise and visual reminders as a good way for me to stay on task. The most helpful was keeping track of each task step and the time it took. She gave good advice on social media and digital clutter management because that can be a big time management problem for a lot of people.

So glad I found this book. I do not have ADHD but my partner does. This book really helped me understand why we can disagree on how to complete tasks and the definition of "done". Also gave insights into differing financial management. This information is helping us find a place to meet in the middle. Would recommend not only to people with ADHD, but also their partners.
