Marquess Next Door: An Enemies-to-Lovers, Clean Regency Romance Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 61 ratings

Residing next door to the insufferable Marquess of Batchwood, I’m prompted to ponder the cosmic forces that led me to such proximity. Me, in love with him? Hardly, or…am I?

His infuriating charm is matched only by his striking handsomeness, and our ceaseless banter has become the talk of the Ton, providing fodder for their insatiable appetite for gossip.

Our rendezvous, inevitably set against the brick wall between our properties, serves as a stage for our verbal sparring, where the discovery of cryptic letters unveil a shared threat.

Unbeknownst to us, adversaries with intimate knowledge of our family histories lurk in the shadows, weaving a web of mystery and danger.

In response, we resolve to forge an alliance against those who would jeopardize our ancestral estates.

As Alexander and I delve deeper into this clandestine endeavor, an unforeseen connection begins to blossom, and the intensity of his gaze stirs a passion within me that I struggle to suppress.

A moment of vulnerability leads to a lingering kiss, unleashing emotions that refuse to be ignored.

As the boundaries between duty and desire blur, I grapple with the realization that our coalition may not only safeguard our estates but also ignite a flame of love that threatens to consume us both.

For love is all that matters…if our love is true.

A clean (except for some heavy kissing and possible scandalous meetings that bring just the right amount of heat to build interest) regency romance that is well written and had me turning the pages just to see what the lovely characters of Arabella and Alexander would be up to next. And don’t you just love those names for a couple? Now the story amongst the Ton goes that Arabella Sutherland and Alexander Ravenscroft, the Marquess of Batchwood, are neighbors who despise each other and can often be found at the various Ton functions going head-to-head in disagreement yet they do seem to be drawn together always. Then one day, a mysterious letter from the Gentlemen’s Express arrives for Arabella’s father and she stealthily sneaks it away before her father sees it. The Gentlemen’ s Express has been making a nuisance amongst the Ton being a “conduit for secret liaisons and decadent exploits” and Arabella fears what it means for her father. Yet the letter refers to four friends including the Sutherlands and the Ravencrofts. Arabella is out in the garden late that night contemplating this mysterious letter when no other than the Marquess of Batchwood stumbles and falls at her garden wall revealing that he also has a letter from the Gentlemen’s Express, in fact he has the very same letter. The two enemies decide they must work together to figure out the mystery and soon become close confidantes with lots of dances together and secretive meetings. The whispers amongst the Ton begun to grow but is there anything growing between the two “ would-be enemies”? And who is behind the mysterious letters? The tender moments between Arabella and Alexander in this book are the perfect amount of romance. It’s the type of romance that causes all romantics to swoon and sigh in contentment. There’s just the right amount of intrigue to keep the reader alert, fearing what might take place, knowing it’s coming, but when it does, it’s quick, swift and settled and romance is back. The flow of the book, the dialogue and the development of the characters are all well done. It’s one of those books you start and don’t put down until finished and then want more because it just feels so good and you don’t want to say “goodbye”.

Well written, full of drama, love, history, romance, mystery, kidnapping, society and lots of twists. Arabella and Alex have been neighbors since they were children. As they grow up their lives go into different directions. Alex becomes a Marquess after his father's passes. They both receive a letter that tries to blackmail their families. The letter states that their Grandfathers gamble away their lands. Arabella and Alex both agree to work together to find out what is happening and who is doing this to them. Arabella is afraid to show her father these letters as his health is not good. Alex is concerned that someone is stealing for them. Has lots of action in this story. A great who done it , which keeps you turning the pages till the end. Also for your pleasure you get a fabulous epilogue. This author did a great job of writing a story that is the best. Would recommend to everyone.

I loved this light read about Arabella and Alexander. It was a nice respite from some of the heavier reading I have been doing. The author has done a wonderful job with this piece but I would love some more depth.

This is a sweet love story between Arabella and Alexander. It starts out as them becoming enemies in childhood and carrying over to adults. Both of them get blackmailed and must work together to find out who wants to destroy their families and fall in love along the way. Very good story

If you like Regency romance, this book is for you. This book is intriguing with a family secret to unravel. It is definitely a page turning Romeo & Juliet style live affair only with a happy ending. Kristina has an uncanny ability to transport her readers back in time giving an awareness of two distinct classes. You'll enjoy this book.

This was a sweet, clean romance that brought out the best in the main characters. I loved how the heroine’s family treated each other, and how truth and love were allowed to prevail despite the machinations of others! My favorite part was the proposal in the garden… it was written so beautifully! There are some word uses that are modern and don’t fit the era, but the pictures that the author paints with her words are superb!

This story of Arabella and Alexander was absolutely lovely. Full of humor, wit, adventure, intrigue, mishaps, suspense and a whole lot of love. They may had grown up as neighbors who didn't get along, but they found their way passed everything and ended up tremendously in love! This story made me laugh and even cry from the happiness. I highly recommend this!

Marquess Next Door is a sweet clean romance with a good plot and interesting characters. This story revolves around a mystery concerning two families, the Ravenscroft's and the Sutherland's. The story centers around Lord Alexander and Lady Arabella, frenemies since childhood. The two team up to solve the mystery and feelings develop. This is a very romantic and adventurous book. I liked it and I think you will too.
