Postponement: A Cryo-Suspension Domestic Thriller Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 181 ratings

What if you could place your newborn into cryo-suspension until it was more convenient to bring him or her home?

Nora Collins works at the Postponement Center helping parents coordinate the
controversial cryonic preservation of their newborn babies. Sometimes a choice for medical reasons, but more often because of career or educational obligations, financial aspirations, or due to parental immaturity.

Past child-bearing years herself, Nora secretly atones for past decisions by living a solitary life. She develops a questionable, borderline addictive, relationship with the frozen neonates, frequently watching them and communicating with them in their crypod units.

Routinely Nora is confronted by outraged protestors and must navigate an ethical minefield surrounding the postponement practice. She staunchly believes parents should choose for themselves when the time is right to bring their baby home—until she doesn’t.

After one mother decides to pre-maturely reanimate her son, forcing him into a life-threatening position, Nora struggles with her own dangerous choice—honor the desire of the new mother or save the innocent child.

About the Author

Diane loved creative writing as a child. Then one very influential college professor put an end to everything--at least for many years. She re-discovered her love to tell stories in 2002 when she developed her first feature length screenplay. That led Diane to become active in the independent film industry and she wrote, directed and produced several short films winning numerous awards for her efforts. She has written many feature-length screenplays, including one she also co-produced called Atrophy that premiered at the Phoenix Film Festival and where she was the recipient of the 2012 Arizona Filmmaker of the Year Award. After spending most of her life living in Southern California and Phoenix, Arizona, she moved to Texas in 2013. At that time she created a blog (dianedresback.com), and started to capture her story ideas into novels.

I absolutely loved this book! It was engaging and I just couldn't put it down. I bet at some time in the future, the story told here may become a reality! Definitely worth the read!

Imagine deciding to postpone the birth of your child? 2weeks to whenever. To get older. More money. Or better job. Bigger house. Interesting concept. Book as ok. Didn’t like the reason she did what she did.

I enjoyed the story and the unique idea. But the book is full of grammar and punctuation errors, which can be very distracting to the reader. A good editor or editing team would make all the difference here.

This was a good book. I read it in three days. I would have loved to read more about Nora and Gaming her cells relationship after Nora went her separate way.

The book moves along well. Lots of personal growth. I really liked the book. I liked the introspection and just the feel of the book.
People sometimes do the wrong thing for the right reasons, understanding that there will still be consequences and accepting them.
Things in our past often shape our present and future. For good or bad, our experiences change us. We wouldn’t be who we are without those experiences.

A thought provoking story. I was skeptical given the futuristic aspects of cryogenics. I was unexpectedly swept up.in the story from the beginning and actually ended reading it, in one afternoon, ending it in tears. It has been a long time since I have been so moved emotionally by characters such as these.

Not honestly sure why I finished it. Very strange story with odd pro-life undertones. “Thriller” is quite a reach for a book of this pace.

This book was a tough one. I had to force myself to keep reading the first few chapters; then it got better for a while (though I don't care for the sci-fi genre). When the ending finally came, it felt like it was written by someone else, and wasn't very good.

I am a mother of 7. I'm in my 40s and despite having alot of potential, I've spent my life making mistakes and punishing myself for them. My children are my life and my greatest achievements. My youngest, my precious son, Tyr, should be 3 in two weeks, but, medical mistakes took him from me at 14 weeks old. His death destroyed the life I had and forced me to relearn who I was. His story can be found under the hashtag justice for Tyr on fb. I am also a full time carer to my 21 year old who has multiple disabilities and is in a wheelchair, but, who loves life and is so innocent and happy. I loved this book, at first as a brilliant story... But the end.... It has hit me so hard. Resonated. It's given me a new direction and shown me how I move to my next stage of healing.

A very well written story which could so easily become part of humanity’s future. It is about parents deciding to have their babies removed from the womb before the actual birth date and then having them ‘kept on ice’ cryogenically frozen until they feel the time is right for them to become parents. Obviously this caused many different issues and this story follows the life of a woman called Nora who works at one of these facilities and how she becomes attached to one little boy in particular. Loved the ending! A great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read

Wow this book had me hooked. The story line flowed nicely and held my interest from the first chapter to the last. Very often with books I find myself skipping all the boring mundane parts,i.e. What the characters ate for lunch etc.
This book had none of that I can honestly say I read it all, I laughed and I cried. This is one book i will keep and read again. A truly wonderful story.

2.0 out of 5 stars So disappointing
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 26, 2023
This book is so disappointing. The idea for the story is so promising and could have been the basis of a really interesting novel, but it is badly written and badly edited and riddled with grammatical errors. I also have no idea why it is categorised as a thriller.
