Wild Card: A Marriage of Convenience Baseball Romance (Dallas Longhorns Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 535 ratings

Hunter Blake wasn’t planning to get married in Vegas. Then again, he doesn’t plan much, living life by the seat of his pants as he tries to outrun the towering shadow of his MLB Hall of Famer father’s reputation. But when he wakes up next to Marlowe Story—his friend with benefits, his partner in crime, and the woman of his dreams—with a ring on his finger, for once he doesn’t want to run from the consequences of his actions. Hunter feels like a different man when he’s with Marlowe. A better man. Somehow, she’s able to pull him out of his own head and help him tame his self-destructive tendencies.

Marlowe Story’s country music songs tell stories of fairy tale love, but Marlowe doesn’t believe in happily ever after. She barely survived her last relationship, and she refuses to let herself fall for anyone ever again. Not even her friend with benefits, Hunter, no matter how safe she feels with him. How cherished and protected. He’s passionate and driven, and makes her wish things could be different for them.

But they can’t, even though they decide to see the marriage through for the publicity. And Marlowe knows that if she’s going to survive this situation, there’s one simple rule she has to follow: do not fall in love with Hunter Blake.

Wild Card is a marriage of convenience romance. It is the second book in the Dallas Longhorns series, and is a standalone story with an HEA.

What Amazon readers are saying about Wild Card...

"This was a great book and I finished reading it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between Hunter and Marlowe is off the charts hot and intense."

"I was captivated with this book. It was exciting to go on this trip with Hunter and Marlowe."

"This is an amazing story once Is started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is off the charts hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover."

"This is a fast, fun read that you can easily consume in one sitting. I love a story where the hero puts it all on the line for the heroine, and then she has to step up and give him that same energy in return. There's a good push-pull dynamic between Marlowe and Hunter, and their chemistry is pretty steamy."

"I don't usually read sport's stories but because the author is Tara Wyatt I thought that I would give it a try and I wasn't disappointed."

"Tara Wyatt nailed it with the second book in the Dallas Longhorns series; Wild Card delivered on all fronts and I absolutely loved Hunter and Marlowe's story."

"I was trying to read this is as slowly as possible because I wanted to relish Hunter and Marlowe's story for as long as I can. But this book was just too good."

"While this is my first book by this author, it will not be my last... She can write!!"

Great sports romance! Fun easy read
Wild Card is a quick, easy to read story set in a bad boy baseball player and a good girl country music star. It is entertaining and I would love to read more of the stories in the series. I felt the conflict was anti-Climatic. I was expecting slightly more drama. Overall it’s a entertaining sports romance! I enjoyed reading it!!

This story is really well written, and has an interesting story line. It’s emotional & involved without too much angst. It’s incredibly steamy too.

Spoilers

The H is the bad boy party-loving baseball player. He’s in love with the good girl pop country singer. They had a thing a few months ago that left him broken hearted. The H wanted more than a fling but the h didn’t do relationships. They’re still friends with benefits. They meet up in Vegas to console each other. The H’s agent and his club want him to clean up his bad boy image. He is suspended from playing. The h wants to revitalize her singing career that has been trending downwards. They get drunk and wind up married to each other. They find that being married is advantageous to both their careers. They decide to stay married for a brief time before getting an annulment. The H likes being married to the h and tries to win her heart. They get their HEA.

It was a fun read. I had a difficult time warming up to the h. I thought she was too cold and calculating for the H. She got better towards the middle of the book. I loved the H. He went after the h with everything he had. I liked the karaoke torture at the end.

Oh, goodness, I LOVED this one!

Marlowe and Hunter's story was even better than I hoped it'd be (from the teensy bit of a hint of it that we got from book one, Stealing Home ). Honestly, I didn't even read the blurb before picking it up, so you should have heard the it's a drunken Vegas wedding! YESSSSSSSS! squeal I gave when Marlowe woke up the next morning and I realized just before she did what had happened. (I'm pretty sure my son won't forget it. He thought there was something wrong ;) When will he learn that sometimes when mom reads she makes noises?)

Anyway...

I really, really, really liked Marlowe and Hunter. We got to see Hunter in book one, where it was pretty clear that the guy was his own worst enemy, which--yikes--was really hard to watch at times. (Did I want to slap him or hug him? Sometimes both at the same time!) Even though Marlowe had plenty of her own issues, by the time we get to their relationship black moment, it really was all him--realistically him, but definitely him. I kinda felt like I was right there with Marlowe, eating ice cream and drinking wine and attempting to get over the big (gorgeous, darn him!) lug...

I honestly wasn't sure if Ms Wyatt was going to be able to bring these two crazy kids together in the end, but she did and she did it in a way that was both 100% realistic and absolutely perfect for this couple. And along the way she gave us hints at (two?) future books (Abby and Jake for sure, fingers crossed that Javi and Aerin are coming too... :)) that I am going to be so here for--I may not be a baseball fan IRL, but with this series? Bring them on!

Wild Card is the second book in the series, but it would work just fine as a standalone. Do yourself a favor, though, and read both books--you won't be sorry!

An entertaining and enjoyable read. This sports romance has a male character who acts like bad boy, but who really is a sweet and caring man.

Loved the grand gesture at the end!

Great story about Marlowe and Hunter each with their own baggage. Hunter trying to live up to his father’s name but he keeps making it worse. Marlowe seeing failed relationships since childhood and being in an abusive relationship didn’t help. But together they see that together they are worthy of love

After wanting to smack each of them over the head, you'll fall in love with Hunter and Marlowe as a couple. They understand one another more than they understand themselves. Steamy love scenes and snappy dialogue are what we expect from Tara
Wyatt and she does not disappoint here.

Got to 18 per cent and gave up. Have read other books by this author and not had any problems but wasn’t connecting to this at all even after going back to it a few times. It was mainly the heroine but honestly, just wasn’t feeling it. Deleted.
