Lady Patrice has escaped her parents’ London home. She left St. Petersburg in a hurry and with danger fast on her heels. Her husband remained behind and was subsequently killed. Now, as her father is set on settling her in another arranged marriage, Patrice dashes off to her childhood home of Sommer-by-the-Sea. In the midst of a horrible blizzard, a lost child pushes her to her country house and lodge in an effort to search the woods for the boy. She doesn’t find him but she does find a wounded man, also a Russian. He looks familiar but she can’t place him. Grand Duke Nikolai Baranov recognizes the beautiful Lady Patrice, however. He is in England to hunt the dangerous men who killed his father and Patrice’s husband. It takes the two a short while to trust each other, but danger, which is closer than either of them suspected, pushes them together.

Great story, wonderful characters! I don’t know that I’ve read Ms Casie before but I know I will be one of her readers from now on. Her writing flows, the plots are exciting as well as engrossing, and her covers are spectacular! Highly recommended for anyone who loves historical romance.

Seriously loved this book! I think, to date, it's my favorite book by this author!!

Patrice: A very intelligent, adventure-seeking, strong woman who was recently widowed and her whole world as she currently knew it was about to be upturned. Her thirst for adventure was met head on as she discovers things from her recent past were not as they seemed.

Nikolai: Not only Russian royalty but a man that would put his life on the line for family and country. He learns early on the type of woman Patrice is and when she's pulled into chaos that explodes before mysteries are resolved, he's by her side. . . protecting, trusting, caring.

Outstanding story! I love Sherlock Holmes mysteries and would compare this story to one of those. Read the book, it can get so tangled you may need to take notes along to the way hoping to solve the puzzle. Recommend it highly!

Lady Patrice Edgemont Montgomery has returned to England after her husband was killed in Russia. She is disillusioned by marriage because her husband was not the man she remembered from her childhood. Lady Patrice returns to her parents, and even though the year of mourning is not over they want her to marry again.
Lady Patrice heads to her home at Sommer-by-the-Sea as a blizzard blankets the area. Henry, a little boy goes missing, and Lady Patrice decides to help look for him by going to her lodge near her house. She finds a wounded Nikolai Baranov, who seems very familiar to her.
Ruth A. Casie keeps your attention throughout the story. There are puzzles to solve, danger, spies, espionage, and treason. Plus Russia and England are working together against Napoleon. Wonderful characters! I highly recommend this story!

What a outstanding story! Riveting and Suspenseful! I thoroughly enjoy when a book grips you right from the start and takes you on a heart-stopping, sigh worthy journey as in The Lady and the Spy. Ruth A. Casie has written a story filled with remarkable emotions, unforgettable characters that are well thought out and each and everyone comes across clearly as their individual personalities become more than just part of the tale, a strong plot brims with tension building twist, with setting descriptions and action sequences are wonderfully vivid which brings this read together perfectly and will keep you in the edge of your seat from the moment you begin the journey with Lady Patrice and Nikolai Baranov until the very end.

With espionage, treason, and puzzles to be solved, this novel keeps the reader on tenterhooks throughout. Lady Patrice Edgemont is disillusioned after the death of her husband who appears not to have been the man she thought he was. When her parents once more try and force her into a suspicious marriage, Patrice takes to her heels and returns to the one place she calls home. There amongst friends, she can be herself. Only things do not quite turn out that way. Finding a seriously wounded stranger in her hunting lodge is just the start of her adventure, but when further danger comes knocking at her door, Patrice begins to understand that nothing is as it seems. Nikolai Branov caught Patrice's attention once, and even though she did not act on her attraction for him, his presence in Sommer-by-the-Sea brings new possibilities, but unfortunately life-threatening danger as well. Together Nicolai and Patrice find they are a formidable team, but whether they have a future together is another matter altogether. This novel comes to a happy conclusion with puzzles being solved, but not without some sadness at the turn of events. I received a copy of this fast-paced romance through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
