imPerfect Hunt: A Darkly Funny Supernatural Suspense Mystery (The imPerfect Cathar) Paperback – August 28, 2023
Purchase options and add-ons
We’re back in Toulouse, and for once we have the upper hand. Our foe has no idea I’ve escaped from his trap in Fairie and we’ve got an actual lead. The famous discovery of a certain hunchbacked English king’s remains gives us a tantalizing clue, and now we’re hot on our enemy’s heels with him none the wiser.
Except nothing ever runs that smoothly. Hob kings, goth vampires and back-stabbing double-crosses are all lying in wait. And that’s just for starters.
To make it back to France we’re going to need serious magic, might and high-level brainpower.
Two out of three’s not bad, right?
Because if we don’t manage it, the hunter might just become the hunted.
imPerfect Hunt is a darkly funny supernatural suspense mystery that spans the south of France, England and Paris. Contains dark humour and graphic violence.

About the author
Award-winning author of the imPerfect Cathar series.
It’s been a strange, unbelievable journey to arrive at the point where these books are going to be released into the wild, like rare, near-extinct animals being returned to their natural habitat, already wondering where they’re going to nick cigarettes from on the plains of Africa, the way they used to from the zookeeper’s overalls. C.N. Rowan (“Call me C.N., Mr. Rowan was my father”) came originally from Leicester, England. Somehow escaping its terrible, terrible clutches (only joking, he’s a proud Midlander really), he has wound up living in the South-West of France for his sins. Only, not for his sins. Otherwise, he’d have ended up living somewhere really dreadful. Like Leicester. (Again – joking, he really does love Leicester. He knows Leicester can take a joke. Unlike some of those other cities. Looking at you, Slough.)
With multiple weird strings to his bow, all of which are made of tooth-floss and liable to snap if you tried to use them to do anything as adventurous as shooting an arrow, he’s done all sorts of odd things, from running a hiphop record label (including featuring himself as rapper) to hustling disability living aids on the mean streets of Syston. He’s particularly proud of the work he’s done managing and recording several French hiphop acts, and is currently awaiting confirmation of wild rumours he might get a Gold Disc for a song he recorded and mixed.

He almost lost a star for this cliffhanger. Thank goodness I don't have to wait for the next book!
like a polar bear tracking seal. The Hobb story bonus was a treat. I managed to wait until the 6th book dropped, so now I don't have to wait and grumble. Not sure about the throwbacks to the mad scientist who was gay and SS. That's as bad as the inventor of the atomic bomb seeing the awful human results. Another good story with some soap box as an aside. Bit preachy, always entertaining. Enjoy.
C. N. Rowan’s imPerfect Hunt is the (Oh deary me, I’m losing track…) fifth? YES! Fifth attention-snatching book in the imPerfect Cathar series. If you’ve made it this far through his writings, I don’t have to tell you that the adventure has been brrrrrrilliant! You already know that there’s no stopping us now. We are in it. For good. Just…trusting the process as we go.
In this story, the battles are epic, trials are traumatizing (grab your emotional support weapons, if you’ve gott’m), and humor is of the high caliber, laugh-out-loud variety. With abounding wit, Rowan’s writing is top notch. His solid gold wordplay makes his readers feel things – uncomfortable things and delightful things, vengeful things, even. Although he is in the habit of giving and taking away, one could say that CN is a master of cunning and subterfuge. Yeah, you know what? Let’s go with that.
Honestly, hearing CN read his own books has spoiled me rottener than week-old windfallen pears. Every character’s voice is unique and entertaining, plus all is narrated with such passion and heartfelt lore-love, I quickly get to the point that I’m carried away from this world and plopped into the perfectly imPerfect SuperCN-zone. And I don’t want to come back. Ever. Except…well, you’ll know when you read the book.
May his creative license never be revoked!
I received an advance reader copy (Yay!), and then I bought the hardcopy.
With my babysitting money.
Because I needed it.

I chose this serie really by randomn and I found myself falling in love with it.
Imperfect Hunt Is the fifth installment in the Imperfect Cathar series and this already adrenaline fuelled ride has gone all out as Paul and Aicha for once have the upper hand in the hunt for De Montfort. The chase is on and it leads to Merry Old England and the unlikely gravesite of that most reviled King, Richard The Third. What follows is a wonderfully eclectic sojourn involving a permanently stoned Hob King called Craig, castles, wards, bones, goth vampires all the while being lost in translation...
This is as always with this series, quick witted, sharp and observant of both the human condition and popular culture. The story is once again split in two with one part being now, the other this time? the rise of the Third Reich and sees Paul escorting The most unlikely of people from the Nazis. The pacing is perfect and both stories are filled with pathos and genuine emotion as things start to take on a desperate turn for our heroes, with double crosses and a genuine feel of disaster. As always Aicha is there to help, to literally throw herself in harms way for her friend and their comradeship is one of the things that makes these books so special, never going down the tired route of unrequited love, theirs is a pure and honest friendship the kind where no words are needed, although maybe the occasional slap upside the head from Aicha, just to Keep Paul honest. Once again the narration is not only on point but a genuine highlight. If you haven't read the series yet, then do so you're in for a treat and for me it's straight on to book six. Easily a five star read
