About this ebook

The violent drug-related murders of two prominent attorneys have the homicide division of the Chicago Police Department scrambling for answers, but without clues, a motive, or a suspect, not even the FBI can track down the killer.
With the media demanding an arrest and at their wits’ end, the Chicago Police Department makes an urgent call to the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office in hopes of bringing in Kate Pierce, a psychic detective, on the case. A reluctant Kate agrees only when word comes that Jesse McCord, a new friend and top-notch Chicago homicide detective, has gone missing.
Partnered with Detective Henry Johnson of Chicago’s homicide division, Kate goes on the hunt for the killer, armed with clues from her revealing dreams—and her dogged determination.
As they inch closer to locating Jesse and learning the identity of the suspect, they realize the killer may be much closer than they think.

Editorial Review:
“Psychic detective Kate Pierce works for a small-town Wisconsin sheriff’s department but gets called on by the big city when the Chicago Police Department finds itself at an impasse in a case involving two dead attorneys and a missing cop. Though Kate believes in the value of her work, she confronts not only a killer but also the good-old-boy network when her mostly male colleagues in Chicago ridicule her psychic abilities. This fresh, intriguing new heroine was a supporting player in some of Sutter’s previous novels and gets her well-deserved turn in the spotlight in this terrific new crime thriller series.” Angela M., Line Editor, Red Adept Editing

I don't normally leave reviews, but this book is so annoying that I need to rant a little! So VERY annoying! I was looking forward to beginning a potentially enjoyable series, but after this one book I will not be reading any more. Some examples of the annoying aspects of this book: *SPOILERS* Author mentions facts that are only revealed later on. Eg Text to MC arranging pick-up time at 7:45, she's not there at 7:50, so it is assumed that she has been missing for 15 mins? Later it is said that she left the building at 7:35, but at the time no-one knew this. In the intial confrontation with bad guy he ties her up and hits her once, yet later they say that she was held by him for an hour while he beat her up? MC has a minor confrontation with a detective when they first meet, then they don't interact with each other in the book until later, when the comment is made that he (the detective) is no longer calling her names, making it seem as if this is a long-running thing. It feels so unsupported and cliche. Not to mention the antagonist taking a kind of vendetta against the MC for no good reason. Much is made of her psychic powers, yet the final mystery is solved by good police work and her dreams have very little to do with it. They make the statement that the antagonist is always one step ahead of them. No he's not! He's just getting on with business and they are fumbling around trying to find him - there is no "one step ahead" in the sense that he is thwarting them. And experienced police officers leaving keys to their houses in ridiculous places! Seriously??? And then literally laying down to die with no attempt to fight back! The antagonist kills people with no warning and for the flimsiest of reasons, yet the MCs (the ones the author wants to survive) are imprisoned and tortured for no good reason except to give them a chance to be rescued. The MC says that she will keep on her head "on a swivel" looking out for danger, yet she is constantly being taken off guard - comes across as very incompetent. And she is the whinest person ever when first being asked to help out! Gives a very bad impression of her character right from the start.

Well written with great flow. Clear and precise. No backtracting to doublecheck facts that got blurred in the telling. Interesting story line with strong and interesting characters - even if they didn't live long! [A little humor.] I would have liked the book to go on for about 5 more chapters but I always think a good book is too short. I like this author and the new series concept. A physic detective that doesn't just see the answers but has to work to get the message clear is much more interesting and believable to me. Read the book, I'm on to the next one in the series...

First time I have read this quthor and it was a pleasant surprise find. I enjoyed the idea of a gifted cop but her gift is not the main way or reason the story unfolds ... it is part of it but it is how the police work together that solves the story. It was a good story that is believable. Thanks for the escape from the world!!
