Those who learn history can doom others to repeat it.

A new generation of humans has entered adulthood. Raised by robots, these freshly minted citizens of Earth struggle to fit into a society that has gotten by without them for a thousand years.

Until Alex Truman shows them a new path.

Raised by Charlie7 and cloned from the original Charles Truman, Alex feels that it's his right to rule mankind. With the entirety of human history as his guide, he learns from the successes and failures of the Human Era and puts them to use against a society that's completely unprepared to oppose him. Who can stand up to this budding tyranny? Abby Fourteen asks that very same question and comes up with just one answer: her.

I am a creator of worlds and a destroyer of words. As a fantasy writer, my works range from traditional epics to futuristic fantasy with starships. I have worked as an unpaid Little League pitcher, a cashier, a student library aide, a factory grunt, a cubicle drone, and an engineer--there is some overlap in the last two.

Through it all, though, I was always a storyteller. Eventually I started writing books based on the stray stories in my head, and people kept telling me to write more of them. Now, that's all I do for a living.

I enjoy strategy, worldbuilding, and the fantasy author's privilege to make up words. I am a gamer, a joker, and a thinker of sideways thoughts. But I don't dance, can't sing, and my best artistic efforts fall short of your average notebook doodle. When you read my books, you are seeing me at my best.

My ultimate goal is to be both clever and right at the same time. I have it on good authority that I have yet to achieve it.

Great Read!!!

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

In this book, the threats facing the human population have switched from conspiracies to upload over their brains to politics. We've moved from action and adventure to political intrigue. We also move on to the next generation in the second human era. Morin continues to provide a rich set of characters that are believably unique.

We've all heard that those who don't stud history are doomed to repeat it, but this book has a different take on that showing that unless everyone studies history, the few who do, could use it against the rest.

Since political intrigue is not my favorite genre, there were times this story seems to drag a bit, but by the end, I had been fully drawn in and was pleased with how it ended up and where it looks like things will go from here.

I've read the whole series and they're all great. My only complaint is in this book (and I'm going to keep this vague to avoid spoilers) we never learn what happens to one key character. Even in the next book, this character is never mentioned, which, considering the character and their motivations throughout the book, seems highly unlikely.

Although this book is not my favorite of the series, it’s full of thought provoking issues concerning the relationship between robots and humans. A tiny too much teen age angst, but still a terrific chapter in how mankind adapts and moves on.

I so love this world that J.S. Morin has created. The robots and humans each want what each other has along with their own gifts: to live the human experience, and to live it forever. But taking on this quest, warps human and robot alike, generation after generation. And both species want power over all.

Take a great premise add believable and engaging characters, mix in well crafted dialog and you have a winning series. Hopefully Mr. Morin is chained to his desk under the tender mercies of a very demanding editor, slaving away at the next installment. I eagerly await its publication.

From start to finish this has been one of the greatest literary rides I've been on. Thank you for the "E" ticket ride.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a pleasant member of this wonderful series. It's more about the humans this time
Reviewed in Australia on February 24, 2018
This is a pleasant member of this wonderful series. It's more about the humans this time, with a large component of politics, and even though both these changes are not so much to my personal taste, it was still a wonderful romp in the superb universe crafted in book one.
