This is a fast-paced, terrifying medical thriller you will not put down til the last page. In addition to leaving finger marks on my face from the suspense, I also really enjoyed the vivid characters. Mallory was an especially compelling person with very relatable vulnerabilities that kept her from being an irritatingly perfect Mary Sue like character. Written by an actual immunologist, but also written in a way that’s easy for a layman to understand, I found the science described incredibly interesting. Medicine is truly amazing, and truly scary in the wrong hands! If you’re at all interested in medical thrillers, definitely give this one a read!

This book was pretty scary! It's about a bad virus spreading after a big wave hits California. Some doctors tried to stop it. The story was exciting and made me keep reading to see if they could stop the virus from making more people sick. Even though it gave me some worried feelings, I enjoyed the book overall.

Particles in the Atmosphere, authored by Dr. Jenna Podjasek, is an enthralling and timely medical suspense novel that will hold you captivated. The narrative revolves around Dr. Mallory Hayes, a medical examiner affiliated with the CDC, dispatched to a FEMA facility in Southern California following a devastating tidal wave. Her objective is to avert the potential dissemination of illness stemming from contaminated water, but she soon uncovers something far more sinister: an expedited HIV-like virus and a commonplace microorganism that are proving to be lethal.

Dr. Podjasek's expertise as an immunologist shines brilliantly in the intricacies of the virus and the scientific foundation underlying it, bestowing upon the story an astonishingly authentic and credible feel. The suspense gradually intensifies as Mallory races against the clock to discover a remedy and halt the virus from extending its reach beyond the confines of the camp.

The characters are well-crafted and relatable, particularly Mallory, who grapples with acrophobia and unease during air travel. Her personal challenges and resolute determination to find a resolution to the epidemic render her an engaging protagonist.

On the whole, Particles in the Atmosphere is a briskly paced and exhilarating medical thriller that will linger in your thoughts long after you've turned the final page. Anyone intrigued by the scientific aspects of viral outbreaks and pandemics will derive immense enjoyment from this book. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Compelling Narrative That Intertwines Science

I recently delved into the gripping world of Particles in the Air and I'm thrilled to report that it's an exceptional literary journey. This heart-pounding medical thriller takes readers on a relentless rollercoaster ride from its very first page to its electrifying conclusion. Dr. Mallory Hayes, a tenacious medical investigator from the CDC, is our fearless protagonist. She's dispatched to a FEMA camp nestled in Southern California with a daunting mission: to prevent the potential outbreak of a deadly disease stemming from contaminated water. Little does she know that the horrors she's about to unearth will far surpass her darkest nightmares.

One of the standout qualities of this book is its meticulous research, a testament to the author's background as an immunologist. Dr. Podjasek's expertise shines brightly in the intricate details surrounding the virus and the scientific principles underpinning it. The medical scenarios are not only incredibly realistic but also thought-provoking, offering an accurate portrayal of pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and laboratory techniques, all meticulously aligned with the disease's natural progression. This level of authenticity adds a layer of credibility to the complex medical narrative.

The characters in Particles in the Air are masterfully developed, rendering them relatable and multi-dimensional. Dr. Mallory Hayes, in particular, stands out as a compelling protagonist. Her personal struggles, including her fear of heights and air travel, humanize her and make her journey all the more compelling.

One of the book's most notable features is its unique narrative perspective. It weaves together multiple viewpoints, from heroes to villains and a diverse array of characters in between, all within the framework of a scientifically-grounded medical thriller. The result is a story that is nothing short of chilling, dark, and disturbing, punctuated by intense and vividly descriptive scenes that will have you perched on the edge of your seat.

4.0 out of 5 stars a viral thriller

A VIRAL THRILLER. They say "write what you know" which is exactly what this author has done. An immunologist by trade, the author skillfully brings her knowledge to the fore as she weaves an action packed thriller about a medical investigator who must identify and control an air-borne virus in the wake of a tsunami. As a scenario, it's not too difficult to believe, yet the narrative keeps the reader on their toes as they follow one plot twist after another. Fans of medical thrillers will love this.
