I recently had the pleasure of reading **Particles in the Air** by Dr. Jenna Podjasek, and I must say it was a fantastic read. This fast-paced and engaging medical thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The story follows Dr. Mallory Hayes, a medical investigator from the CDC, who is sent to a FEMA camp in Southern California to prevent the potential spread of disease from contaminated water. However, what she discovers is far worse than she could have ever imagined.The book is well-researched, and the author's background as an immunologist shines through in the details of the virus and the science behind it. The medical scenarios in this book are ultra-realistic and thought-provoking, demonstrating accurate underlying pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and lab techniques, all of which are consistent with the disease's natural course. This level of detail lends authenticity to its intricate medical plot points. The characters are well-developed and relatable, especially Mallory, who struggles with height and air-flight anxiety, making her a compelling protagonist.What I loved most about this book is the unique approach taken in the multiple points of view, from villain to hero and many others in between, in a scientifically-based medical thriller. The story is chilling, dark, and disturbing, with intense and descriptive scenes that keep you on the edge of your seat.Overall, I would highly recommend **Particles in the Air** to anyone interested in the science behind viral outbreaks and pandemics. This book is timely, relevant, and has a satisfying ending.Dr. Jenna Podjasek has done an excellent job in writing a medical thriller that is both compelling and believable. The cautionary tale presented in this book is relevant now more than ever especially after COVID, and I highly recommend it.
