When she sat down to plan a murder, Debbra Lynn never imagined it would turn into her first novel. A prolific high-school poet-turned-career woman, Debbra’s dream is to write stories that will entertain, intrigue, and quite frankly, scare her husband of eight years, Robin.

Debbra lives in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, with her husband Robin and their two fur babies, their cats, Milo and Bailey. She loves spending time with her husband out at the golf course where they have a beautiful fifth wheel which they can call their second home. Golfing, campfires, friends and family is her ideal way to spend her free time - when she’s not plotting revenge, of course. Beyond the Red Carpet, book number one in the three part series, is her first novel followed by the prequel Heart of Stone. Debbra is currently working on the third and final installment of the Hollywood Lies Trilogy.

BRAVOThere is nothing more satisfying than a great opening...and Ms. Lynn starts her novel off with a bang. I was pulled in by the main characters: Sophia and Marcus. Their relationship sizzled. The way that Ms. Lynn fleshed out her characters was excellent, especially the lead character, Sophia, she was painted brilliantly. Beyond The Red Carpet was a great read.I can't wait to see what happens in her next installment...again, Bravo Ms. Lynn.

Beyond the Red Carpet is an action-packed, well-written Hollywood mystery, a modern story reminiscent of Harold Robbins’ and Jacqueline Susann’s classics. Sophia is the main character, a compelling protagonist thrown into love and intrigue in a clever, well-drawn plot. The story deftly moves between past and present, tension rises with every chapter, and the ending is a wild ride.
Sophia’s passion for life and love drives the novel, and her relationship with Marcus is spellbinding, a sizzling romance that has expected (and unexpected) ups and downs. Her friendship with Cat is touching and sincere, and their interaction is punctuated with great dialog and humor. Beyond the Red Carpet is a masterful blend of romance, glamor, and intrigue that’s hard to put down, a very satisfying read filled with cliffhangers.
The writing’s great, the characters are brilliant, and the whole story’s a roller coaster ride with unexpected twists and turns. This is Book One in the Hollywood Lies series. I can hardly wait for the second. Highly recommended.

A writer faces a unique challenge when setting a thriller in a town as recognizable as LA. The research has to be meticulous since local knowledge can really elevate a book or bring the reader to a jarring holt.
Unfortunately the research in this book is superficial. Real estate up on Mulholland - the drive that forms the spine that connects all the super wealthy neighborhoods of this town - is some of the priciest in the world and no mere assistant would be able to own a house there. The Pacific Coast Highway is not a freeway and therefore has no on and off ramps and Sophia would most likely have taken the 101 from the Hills to Malibu.
However, these details are not known by every reader and they are not really relevant to the story itself. But the way Sophia gets in and out of the Malibu spa did almost make me put the book down. An exclusive spa in Malibu would have a 6ft wall, a manned gate and cameras throughout the grounds. This is LA, paparazzi are everywhere. Perhaps she could have hiked out and in through a back gate but she could not have driven from and back to her cabana without at least the person at the gate knowing.

I’m glad I didn’t condemn the book on those grounds though, because the twisted, twisting story turned out to be very good. The writing is solid and the choice of telling the tale in alternating chapters of present day and events from the past - both storylines progressing chronologically - works well and takes the book out of the ordinary.
A very enjoyable read.

This well-plotted tale should appeal to readers who like Hollywood melodrama, a romantic crime story, the combination of both, and puzzles. I think it would make a good movie. The story is told from the multiple viewpoints of its three main characters and several supporting characters observing the action and often internal monologues.

Why the puzzle? The story unfolds in two different time periods: now (from 2015 forward) and then (from 2004 forward), alternating chapter by chapter. As you read in one timeline and try to link it to future or past events, you must solve a puzzle.

The plot in a nutshell: The two main characters are Sophie and Marcus; a third is Cat, Sophie’s friend. As the story opens in now, Marcus and Cat have been murdered, police investigate, and Sophie may be suspect. So, what will happen to her? Flashback to then as Sophie falls for Marcus, a hunk of a movie director. They marry, are happy together, then unhappy as it appears Marcus has been unfaithful, they go along like that for years, both parties having their affairs, until . . . Jump forward to now. (Or loop back to the future.)

Lots of good stuff happens along the way—colorful Hollywood characters, plentiful sex and drugs, fancy dining, mansions and swimming pools, bad behavior, career success, and love, jealousy, and murder.

Questions as I read: At first, who killed Marcus? Later, who else was involved? Much later, will the guilty party get away with it? Much, much later, who put the hit on the guilty party?

Usually, I am a little reluctant to purchase Kindle books, for obvious reasons. However, I stand corrected in my judgement after reading this story. The author, Debbra Lynn, has an exceptional way of conveying detail in her story, and everything is beautifully concise. And, let's not forget, her skill for throwing a great twist your way! Speaking of twists, with the way the story ended, I'm eager to read the next one! Very satisfying read.

One of the best attributes of this book are its characters. They are believable. They feel real. Hell -- I could hear the emotion in their dialogue (especially that of Marcus!) The story is great, too. I caught vibes of the old Hollywood Murder mysteries, yet set in a more contemporary setting; a nice, refreshing spin on an already classic genre.Dare I say vibes of the classic Hollywood-Noir movies? I think so.

As I said, I was very pleased with this book, and am definitely looking forward to more from Debbra. To the author: keep it up! You know how to captivate an audience, for sure!

Once in a while I like to take a break from the murder and mayhem within the thrillers I typically read. The title of this book interested me, and I picked it up…and simply liked it very much.
It didn’t take long to get hooked into the story, in fact, the first three pages posed enough intrigue to turn the next page and then the next. I’m typically not a fan of alternating the past and present in each chapter, but for this story the form proved quite effective and read very well. Lynn’s primary characters, Sophia, Marcus and Catarina (Cat) were also well drawn and believable (especially the gradual unveiling of Marcus’s true nature). Overall this book was a nice change from the typical, many times predictable, romance/love story – with a wealth of pretty plot twists and surprises. This book is noted as being the author’s first in a series. I’d be interested to see what else Lynn can come up with.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read and a Brilliant Debut.

I have to say that I was pulled into this novel by the author’s sharp, concise, descriptive writing style straight away and was glad to see the subtitle (Hollywood Lies Book 1). Will there be a sequel? I’d hardly started this and wanted more already! Unlike a lot of books in this genre (which I think I can describe as a sassy romantic thriller), the characters are well fleshed out and I felt a lot of empathy with Sophia, as I followed her into the glitzy, high-risk world of Hollywood. Sophia’s observations on the people she meets are pointed and witty and all the characterisations are spot-on and totally believable, as is all of the dialogue. It’s sophisticated, exciting, classy and well-written. It reminded me of, as was just as good as, a Jackie Collins novel (and I don’t make that comparison lightly). By the time I’d finished, I wished I’d come across this last year so I could have taken it on holiday with me. A first class read and one I’d wholeheartedly recommend. Can’t wait for the next one!

4.0 out of 5 stars A cool murder story.

A cool murder story. For the price I paid for the book, I was expecting flimsy writing, but Debbra proved me wrong. Very well written, a little long, but the story definitely captivated my attention enough to keep reading till the end. If you are into a large plot line and whodunit style stories, I definitely recommend this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars A strong debut

I must commend Debbra Lynn for this strong debut.

I found the plot solid, and it unfolds at a good pace.

The story flits between past and present with ease, making it easy for the reader to follow.

The characters are solid, and more importantly, realistic.

I warmed to Sophia, and sympathized with her unfolding dilemma. A Woman scorned with a mission!

The scene is set out from the start with a murder, and leaves you wanting to unravel the motive.

A tangled web of deceit and betrayal unfolds, and reveals that you have to be careful who you trust.

The story ends with an elephant in the room which left me with a smile on my face. Clever twist, Debbra!

I recommend this book. I will be looking out for further offerings from this author.
