This book should be burned... well that is if you could. Back in 1871 this version of A Journey to the Centre of the Earth was "translated" from the original French. This translation however should not be considered an exact translation, in fact it wouldn’t be right to call it the same book at all. This book was not only censored for anything considered “anti-British” or “anti-American” content, but many of the scientific details, and descriptive passages were removed, leaving the book much shorter. Also the translator invented and threw in entire chapters. Dialogue was rewritten to the translators taste, and throughout the book, many, many mistakes were made that an average high-school student of French would have managed correctly. Readers who read this translation are not reading the real Jules Verne, but a dry uninteresting copy.

Jules Verne - A Journey To the Centre of the Earth (Illustrated) (Voyages Extraordinaires: Book 3) (1871) Notes: *Abridged & edited/reworked - character names have been changed from the original, chapter titles have been added, possible recomposition of text. Not a great translation. *Many typos throughout *Errors in the text possibly due to OCR - periods in the middle of sentences; numbers or letters instead of question marks; a single word split into 2 words, sometimes with extra characters (e.g. "in>possible" for "impossible" & "1 motest" for "remotest"); illustrations are spoilers, as they occur ahead of corresponding passages

A bit tedious at times but still very enjoyable to read considering its age.
