Suspect Santa (Dev Haskell Private Investigator Book 33)

Private Investigator Dev Haskell gets a call from Tubby Gustafson. There’s a car waiting for Dev just outside his office. If he doesn’t want to take the ride, he’ll have to drive himself to the Emergency room. Dev decides whatever he was involved in can wait and is driven to Tubby’s mansion.
Turns out Tubby wants any and all information on east coat mobster Alex Chillcot who’s rumored to be moving into town. The more Dev uncovers, the worse Chillcot looks. Almost immediately the bodies begin to pile up.
In case that isn’t bad enough, Dev’s latest squeeze, Layla, works every year as a sexy elf at Santa’s Workshop. There’s only one problem, Santa turns out to be an obnoxious drunk who frightens children and tells them he won’t come to their house. Dev gets more involved than he planned.

Mike Faricy was awarded the 2016 IACM Silver Award for Best Mystery Author.

His books have held the #1 slot in the Kindle Store in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, and India.

Mike Faricy was listed as the IACM Author of the Month for April 2018.

He was awarded the Crime Masters of America Poison Cup Award in January of 2019.

His Dev Haskell tale, Star Struck, was a mystery finalist for the 2019 Killer Nashville Silver Falchion Award.

The Dirty Lowdown called Mike Faricy America's hottest new mystery writer.

Robert Carraher referred to him as Minnesota's Master of the Bizarre.

Crime Scene referred to him as the next Carl Hiaasen.

Crime Capers said; "Open at your own risk, you won't put him down."

UnderCover wrote; "This guy is nuts and one hell of a lot of fun.”

The Irish Gazette referred to; "The laugh a minute storylines of Faricy's deliciously engaging worlds."

Mike’s Dev Haskell series books are stand-alone, they can be read in any order. His Corridor Man series was initially written under the pseudonym Nick James and should be read in order. His Jack Dillon Dublin Tales series was originally written under the pseudonym, Patrick Emmett. His Hotshot series are standalone tales that can be read in any order. Faricy's novels are filled with the sort of oddballs we're all curious about, but wisely prefer to keep at a distance. His characters serve not so much as an example as they do a warning. None of them will be saving the world from terrorism, international banking conspiracies or coups to take over the government. Rather, Faricy's characters inhabit a world just below the surface of polite society. The circumstances they find themselves in are usually due to their own bad decisions, but then bad decisions make for interesting stories.

Reminiscent of the late Robert B. Parker, Faricy's tightly woven Dev Haskell series is penned with a delightful sense of humor and even some romance. Entertainment is the name of the game as back-slapping, corner-cutting, babe magnet Dev Haskell interacts with such quirky characters as ice cream mogul Mr. Swirlee, The D'Angelo brothers, local crime lord Tubby Gustafson, 'Fat Freddie' Zimmerman, former NFL tight end Luscious Dixon, exotic dancer Swindle Lawless, and gorgeous Heidi Bauer. The Dev Haskell novels can be read in any order.

Faricy's Corridor Man series was originally released under the pen name Nick James. The series is a bit more gritty than the Dev Haskell series and a lot more violent. Disbarred attorney Bobby Custer makes his way back into the legal game. He's neurotic, psychotic, psychopathic, narcissistic, greedy, unprincipled and . . . always charming.

Faricy's Jack Dillon Dublin Tales series was originally released under the pen name Patrick Emmett. US Marshal Jack Dillon is sent to Dublin to escort a prisoner back to the US. Things don't go exactly as planned and trouble ensues. Dillon becomes permanently stationed in Dublin, just to get him out of his boss's hair. Things take an entertaining turn from there, think of a cross between Dev Haskell and James Bond.

Faricy's Hotshot series are zany, delightfully entertaining standalone crime tales.

Enjoy the reads!

A master story teller, Mike Faricy ratchets up the tension chapter after chapter. Near the end I can’t wait to see him bring this all together. My favorite parts was Dev Haskell in chapter 40 who filled in for Santa Claus saving Christmas for children and playing the hero saving lives in chapter 41. A page turner with a surprise ending. I can’t wait to read the next Dev Haskell mystery by Mike Faricy.

I am hooked on reading Dev Haskell mysteries. The private investigator, Dev Haskell is a nice guy, intelligent, looks after the people he cares about, and always does the right thing. I like him. This series opens up a view of a big city through the lens of a PI. I want to read every book in the series.

This series of 36 books would make great movies or an excellent television series.

This was an easy, relaxed read and pleasingly very different to my normal thriller genre. It was a feel good story and one I would recommend.

Several mob hits, lots of action. A real page turner. I couldn't put it down. Dev really steps up in this story. He goes out in the night and reports to the police and Tubby. All the while, trying to catch a bad Santa at his worst. This is a great book written by Mike Faricy, one of my go-to authors, for a great read. Always entertaining.

Dev Haskell never lets you down in a PI story. Always great characters and storylines. Who would ever guess about Dev,s association with Santa? A fantastic read, a definite must read. A+++

Prolific and entertaining mystery writer Mike Faricy has done it again with Suspect Santa, just in time for the holidays. You'll like this well-written and movie-like mystery.

This time out, Dev Haskell, our hero, is asked to supply background information to Tubby Gustafson, the local bad guy. Tubby has demanded that Dev find background information on an east coast mafioso who is planning to move to the Twin Cities. Murders, romantic hijinks, and entertaining dialogue make this mystery a fun read.
Faricy continues to entertain using many of the same characters and similar plot lines; however, each
entry into this long-running series is unique and has its own thoroughly entertaining qualities that will captivate the reader until the last page.

Faricy is a talented, veteran mystery writer with a long and fascinating backlist that will entertain readers for the foreseeable future. Check out his other series and stand-alone novels; most assuredly, you will have a merry holiday season.

This is the first book I've read in this series. I've read and enjoyed several of the Jack Dillon books, but this one doesn't measure up to those. This reads like the private life of a very boring man. Repetition is the hallmark if this book. Dev sets up the coffee maker every chapter. Whenever something happens in Dev's day, Dev repeats the story to half a dozen people, in full. After a while, I felt like there really was no story and that the author was trying to reach a word count. I have several more books in this series in my library; hopefully they are better than this one.

Things get crazy when Santa is a scary drunk and a notorious mobster is coming to town to live. Crimes, especially murders are increasing. What will happen next?
Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2022
Although this is book 33, it is fresh and new, with a Dev Haskell who is finally able to show his real worth and claim his place in decent society. However, some of his old traits are still around, his pals and Morton. Faricy has worked his magic again and created a very suitable story for Christmas with pace, suspense, twists and turns, family interest, humour and an all-round good read. There's even a relationship cliff hanger at the end so, YOU'VE GOT TO BUY THE NEXT ONE! Thanks Mike, please keep them coming.

I thoroughly enjoyed this timely Mike Faricy book!

A PI, his girl, his dog (I'm still not sure if Morton the dog out ranks his girl....), 3 kids needing police protection, mobsters, explosions, a drunk Santa with connections and pork rinds. Lots of pork rinds....

I received a free copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
