About this ebook

“No dragons, but [Crystal Singer] has all of [Anne] McCaffrey's gifts for world-building and characterization . . . an excellent book.”—Chicago Sun-Times

Her name was Killashandra Ree; and after ten grueling years of musical training she was young, beautiful—and still without prospects.

Then she heard of the mysterious Heptite Guild on the planet Ballybran, where the fabled Black Crystal was found.

For those qualified, the Guild was said to provide careers, security, and the chance for wealth beyond imagining. The problem was, few people who landed on Ballybran ever left.

To Killashandra the risks were acceptable . . .

Ive always loved Anne McCaffery"s books. One could wish this author still lived but her works still live on. Ive probably read evry one of jer books 30- 40 times ormore and I still cant get enough. I find something new evry time. Anne seems to have been an Author ahead of her time in many ways.

I happened to have stumbled on this book in a used books store when I was probably about 12/13 years old and got it because I had been reading the Dragon Riders of Pern series so I recognized her name. But this book has had me coming back to read this series for the past decade. The trilogy is phenomenal. McCaffrey's use of language is superior quality and the use of music as a means to bind all her books together has kept me coming back to her series time and time again. I see myself in Killa and love it!

This is the book that got me addicted to Anne McCaffrey. I eventually discovered her Dragon series, and went in to do a brief interview with her by phone at a radio station in Canada. I love this lady, and although she is gone, her well developed characters have etched a spot in my heart. I love you Killa, Menolly, Robinton, and Sassinak.
