Sisterless in Seattle (Blood Magic is Thicker than Water Book 1) Kindle Edition

3.8 3.8 out of 5 stars 46 ratings

I. Hate. Magic. But it may be my only hope.

My name is Misty and I’m a blood mage - a rare and powerful breed of spellcaster. Only a few are born each generation.

Too bad I suck at it.

After a serious accident, I left both magic and my family behind. These days I’m a simple tea broker in the Pacific Northwest. Sure, everyone but my sister Elaine hates me for “walking out on my destiny,” but it’s not like any of them talk to me anyway. Overall, my new life is great.

Until my sister gets kidnapped by a demonic, criminal organization hell-bent on murder and destruction. They want me to find something for them, and they’ll kill my sister if I don’t do exactly as they say.

My only hope of saving her is to dive head-first back into the magical world. The same world that chewed me up and spat me out.

And this time, there may be no escape.

Hey all! I'm a fantasy author with a love of all things Disney, Star Wars, magic, and dragons.

My life-long love affair with books started at the tender age of four, soon moving on from Mr. Man books (remember those?) to more traditional fantasy by authors like Terry Brooks and Tolkien.

An off the wall writing prompt in the third grade about Sir Lancelot fighting a dragon and falling off a cliff vaulted me into writing, and I've since created many a wondrous world (including a series of short stories about Sir Lancelot I hope to re-create one of these days).

I live in the Pacific Northwest with my wife and four children, and I strive to keep the magic alive with them each and every day.

This book had a lot of action and adventure. The main characters were fun and interesting. There was magic, mayhem, and some surprises along the way. I enjoyed this book and recommend it.

I chose this book because it was located in Tacoma and had a flying ferret. I have lived in Tacoma and if you're a resident it probably won't work for you. There are discrepancies of place that throw you out of the narrative. The flying ferret idea is cute, but doesn't get a lot of airtime. Nothing feels really clearly fleshed out. Perhaps this will be resolved in future books sine there are obviously going to be more, but I didn't love the main character enough to continue.

Good story, lots of twist and turns that will keep you guessing. Love the main character and her sass! Great first book in a series, looking forward to the next book!

This is a fun new series by Peter Glenn. It’s a spinoff of his Immortality Curse series. Damian makes a cameo, if you’ve read it. You don’t have to have read it to enjoy this series. It follows a failed mage named Misty. She’s been living as a human, complete with a regular vanilla boyfriend and a cute ferret named Charly.

She runs a tea shop and would rather scrape by then deal with her mother and her heritage. That all ends when her sister is kidnapped. A group of demons demands she recover an ancient artifact or they’ll kill her and there’s a deadline.

The book was action almost from beginning to end. Lots of locations in Washington, a magical world, familial issues, and of course demons. If you like your urban fantasy to be action packed, this series is for you.

This feels like you’ve missed book 1. So much history that is mad clear. And the characters are really juvenile despite their ages. It felt like teen dialogue. Lots of recount.

I realize many people use foul language, but I don't, nor will I read it.

So disappointed, I was enjoying the tale. Oh, well another story ruined by inappropriate language.
